Remembering the Victory Day, in the Capital of Moldova

in Photography Lovers4 years ago (edited)

Good night, little Bees of the Hive!

When I arrived in Moldova, 4 years ago, it was the 9th of May, the exact date for the Victory Day Celebrations that have become a tradition in most Eastern European Countries.

Nearby my hotel there was a public garden with a few monuments recalling this day of 1945, which marks the fall of Nazi Germany... and it was no surprise that a crowd had gathered there to celebrate that historical date.

Everyone brought flowers that were laid all over the place, making up a sort of altar... these were located under a large monument called the Eternity Memorial Complex and Eternal Flame...

That name is not at random. All through the year, a flame is kept alive at the place and protected by a standing guard. This photo was taken 10 days after the Victory Day:

Here's the entire monument... and the scene I encountered when I first got there.

Most people were in silence, remembering the event of 1945 but there was also a girl who appeared to be catching Pokemons. 🤭

On the following days, I kept returning to this public garden, as it was so close to my hotel that I ended up passing by it, whether I had intended or not.

There was a path large enough for bikers and skaters... as well as a narrower path for pedestrians.

It was quite common to see other people strolling around in this place.

A few other structures were present at this public garden, also related to the Victory Day Celebrations.

Most of the structures had the dates marking the beginning and the end of the Second World War... and they were obviously constructed by the USSR regime, as you can see by the star at the top of this column.

Even though Moldova has been independent for 20 years now... those monuments are kept in place and cherished by the locals.

Here are a couple more shots of the Eternity Memorial Complex and Eternal Flame structure, this time without all the people around.

This public garden is located on the outskirts of the city... about 20 or 25 minutes on foot from the centre. It's not a long walk, so if you ever find yourself in Chișinău, the capital of Moldova, you can certainly pay it a visit.

Even though there is not much to do at this town, I have enjoyed it a lot more than other more touristy capitals of Europe. It's a nice and tranquil city with lots and lots of green spaces. 😎

If you're lucky, you can even catch a concert from the local band Infected Rain... and believe me, these guys are worth it! 😈

Here's a videoclip from them. Check out if you dig their sound. This is the song Mold, by Infected Rain:

I hope you enjoyed these shots.

Спасибо за пост.

Пожалуйста!

I really like the landscape of the complex and the main structure also. Is there any meaning of those 5 or 6 inclined structural pillars and the peak point? Well, I should check google for the significant meaning of those structural pillars.

I haven't got a clue... let me know if you find anything about it. 😁

That's a bit weird having a pokemon catcher at a monument for remembering the casualties of war - but it's someone local most probably 😀

For sure... these pokemon catchers are everywhere! It's a plague, they say! 🤭
