Today I want to tell you about a very isolated beach at the southern end of the island of Florianópolis. It is called Naufragados (Castaway) beach. The region was named Naufragados because it was there that the survivors of a shipwreck took refuge. The discussion revolves around which shipwreck this was. The most accepted version is from 1753, when a crew transporting 250 Azorean immigrants bound for Rio Grande do Sul to found the current city of Porto Alegre was shipwrecked in the region.
Not by chance, on May 14, 1883, a lighthouse was inaugurated on the site, with up to 42.6 meters in height, to assist the vessels that passed by.
Access to the beach is by a gentle trail of almost 3km and it is worth the walk. The trail crosses the forest and in the final section, runs parallel to a small river that flows into the sea. The beach has rough seas, much sought after by surfers on north wind days. The small river forms pools on the beach where children can play without danger.

Hoje quero contar sobre uma praia bem isolada no extremo sul da ilha de Florianópolis. É chamada de praia dos Naufragados. A região ganhou o nome de Naufragados porque foi lá que se refugiaram os sobreviventes de um naufrágio. A discussão gira em torno de qual naufrágio foi este já que aconteceram vários. A versão mais aceita é de 1753, quando uma tripulação transportando 250 imigrantes açorianos com destino ao Rio Grande do Sul para fundar a atual cidade de Porto Alegre naufragou na região.
Não por acaso, em 14 de maio de 1883, foi inaugurado no local um farol, com até 42,6 metros de altura, para auxiliar as embarcações que por ali passavam.
O acesso a praia é por uma trilha suave de quase 3km e vale a pena a caminhada. A trilha atravessa a mata e no tramo final, corre paralela a um pequeno rio que deságua no mar. A praia é de mar violento, muito procurada pelos surfistas nos dias de vento norte. O pequeno rio forma piscinas na praia onde as crianças podem brincar sem perigo.
