Today I want to talk about ICM (Intentional camera movement)
Intentional camera movement, as a technique, has been around for years. We use panning to convey the message of speed in a photo. You move the camera following the subject (a car or a bird, for example). The subject is relatively focused, but the background becomes an interspersed blur, giving the impression of speed or movement. Only in this case, we didn't follow any subject. The movement is done to blur the image.
More and more photographers are using this technique not for 'panning', but to achieve other results. In most of these photos, you won't find a subject that is in focus and sharp, but the entire photo will be blurred, creating abstract textures and this is on purpose.
We use shutter speeds below 1/40th, so we should use more closed apertures. Depending on the intensity of the light, you may need to use an ND filter.
I personally prefer to use this technique at sunrise or sunset, this way I avoid the filter, and I can also capture more intense and varied colors. The tip is to start the panning movement and shoot while moving the camera, this way the image is more fluid. It's like painting... with a very expensive brush. Another tip is to follow the lines of the image. For example, in the first photos I shared today, in which I photographed the sea from the beach, I followed the horizon line. In the photos taken in the forest, I followed the vertical movement of the trunks. We can also focus on an object and make a circular movement with the camera. Another interesting option is to use this technique together with double or multiple exposures.
Anyway, there are no rules in this technique, trial and error is the default. The results are not always satisfactory, but sometimes it can surprise us by making it worthwhile.

Hoje quero falar sobre ICM (Intentional camera movement ou Movimento intencional da câmera)
O movimento intencional da câmera, como técnica, existe há anos. Nós usamos o panning para transmitir a mensagem de velocidade em uma foto. Você move a câmera acompanhando o sujeito (um carro ou um pássaro, por exemplo). O sujeito está relativamente focado, mas o fundo se torna um desfoque entremeado, passando a sensação de velocidade ou movimento. Só que em este caso, não seguimos nenhum sujeito. O movimento é feito para provocar desfoque na imagem.
Cada vez mais fotógrafos estão usando essa técnica não para 'panning', mas para alcançar outros resultados. Na maioria dessas fotos, você não encontrará um assunto focado e nítido, mas a foto inteira ficará desfocada, criando texturas abstratas e isso é proposital.
Usamos velocidades de disparo abaixo de 1/40, por tanto devemos usar aberturas mais fechadas. Dependendo da intensidade da luz, pode ser necessário o uso de um filtro ND.
Eu pessoalmente prefiro usar esta técnica no amanhecer ou no pôr de sol, desta maneira evito o filtro, e também posso capturar cores mais intensas e variadas. A dica é começar o movimento de panning e disparar enquanto movemos a câmera, desta maneira a imagem fica mais fluida. É como pintar… com um pincel muito caro. Outra dica é acompanhar as linhas da imagem. Por exemplo, nas primeiras fotos que compartilho hoje, nas quais fotografei o mar desde a praia, acompanhei a linha do horizonte. Já nas fotos feitas na mata, acompanhei o movimento vertical dos troncos. Também podemos focar em um objeto e fazer um movimento circular com a câmera. Outra opção interessante, é usar esta técnica junto com dupla ou múltiplas exposições.
Enfim, não há regras nesta técnica, tentativa e erro é o padrão. Os resultados nem sempre são satisfatórios, mas algumas vezes pode nos surpreender fazendo valer a pena.
