I tend to vary mission length according to what other things I am doing through the day. I try to keep a good stock of pizza. The game does favour those who are at the computer all day, so lockdown works well for many.

We made some changes to the way XP is rewarded so if levelling up is your main goal then the longer missions are slightly better now. However the shorter missions are indeed still the best overall strategy.
