In this first chapter, we get to know Siddhartha, who is the golden child, loved by many. His parents are very proud of him, his best friend adores him and the young girls in town crush on him. But he is unhappy and feels that he has many unanswered questions that he needs to find the answers to.

He asks his father for permission and this is my favourite "scene" in this chapter. I could feel the tension and the emotions ride over each other with the power struggle of both hoping the other would yield🥺

Siddhartha is a novel by Hermann Hesse. The original version written in German was published in 1922. I am reading the translated version, which you can find on The Gutenberg Project. The novel falls under the philosophical fiction genre. It is the story of Siddhartha who goes on a spiritual journey of self-discovery.
