TGIF!!!

Yey! Finally, it's Friday. It's been too hectic and my brain feels like it's going to explode. Too many things on my plate - I don't know which one to choose first. Add to that the constant screaming, whining, and fighting in my background. Boy, oh, boy! Hashtag parenting at its finest. LOL.

That's why I'm just too pleased that the weekend is here. At least there's another pair of ears to absorb all the noise.

Online Grocery

Anyhooo, since today is a Friday and I have not been around here too much the past week, I decided to peek in and share a bit about my peppery escapades.

I still do most of my grocery shopping online these days but for fresh produce, I still prefer to go to the supermarket.

A Peck of Pickled Pepper

While I have gotten used to online grocery shopping and love the fact that I save a lot of money (you know, fewer extras and temptations in the basket!) I have missed going to the physical store and being able to go around and check cool stuffs on display.

While at the grocery to buy ingredients for potato salad the husband requested, I passed by the pickles section.

There were pickled everything -- jalapenos, cucumbers, chilis, carrots, and radishes, and many more.

While I have tried the above pickles, I have not yet tried pickled stuffed eggplants. Hmmm, these are of Jordan and Syrian-style eggplants thingy... I had lots of Jordanian colleagues before but I was never introduced to this...

The olives? Hmm, not a fan. Hehe.

Labneh and Cheeses!

What I have learned from my Arab friends though, was to put labneh on flatbread. I remember we used to order Afghan flatbreads in the office and then eat them with labneh, cucumbers, and tomatoes.

And the cheese? I mostly buy assorted scraps of these cheeses. They sell those little scraps from the cheese blocks that "do not make the cut". I prefer that because at least I get a bit of most types.

A hearty breakfast

Of course, all these will be enjoyed in a hearty meal with the fam. This is not a typical Pinoy breakfast. I guess we've adapted our taste buds over the years. I particularly love the labneh and pickled jalapenos in my bread. No Aghan flatbread in the photo below, but I won't complain about toasted sliced bread, no.

Wow! Talk about a great market full of yumminess! Oh, I do love those olives!! You don't say where you are, for buying purposes, or how the prices are, but, with a fresh market that looks like that? I am standing behind you for my shopping! I have seen our prices here in the Washington, DC area keep on going up and up, I don't know about yours.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday! I cannot tell you how pleased I am to see so many participating every week. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for it. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing.

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers markets and eventually branching out and evolving over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact of what is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
