Cruising through Market Friday Challenge | Before & During Lockdown

This is an inspiration from Denise @dswigle to join the #MarketFriday Challenge! If you haven't followed her yet; please do so now as she is one of those genuine encourages with a true heart and soul to support people on Steemit.

This is the one tag and weekly challenge that I try to make a point to join; not to mention that I'm also a fanatic when it comes to sight seeing or shopping in any form of market - indoors, outdoors, food, textile, accessories and etc.

This week is very different for me since it's the first time in 14 days I've been out from my apartment after being on self-quarantine. And what a change the world has begun. This was how the local wet markets were before the full lock down initiation happened just over a week ago.

And now, it's like a full 360 degrees change. Not only are the streets empty because everyone is on social distancing and asked to stay home, even the market sellers have decided to stay home too. Though I'm not sure if that is the only reason or that this area isn't a legitimate wet market. After all, having street stalls like this isn't very law abiding. Then again, this has been their way of life for a long time. It wouldn't make sense to just change like that.

These two streets was once filled with sellers parading their goods for sale but now it's just empty with several of these sellers selling their fresh items on motorbikes or by displaying them on small baskets. I do feel sorry for them because this really jeopardises their daily income and many probably have suffered. I do hope things get back to normal soon if not I would soon find it hard to find fresh provisions like meat, fish, vegetables & fruits.

Note that public transportation is no longer available as such, getting around is going to be hard. The next nearest wet market would be 20mins walk away; not too far but if I have to carry my purchases, it would seemed to be a really long exercise.

It is always interesting to see the different markets around the globe!
There's so many different cultures and beauty in this world and the more we travel and open up our eyes, the more we gain.

It's easy to participate :

  1. Go to the market! Any market will do! Food, Clothing, Plant or Animal, if you wish. You can go to the zoo or an art auction. Anywhere or anything that you pay money for a service.
  2. Take pictures! Be creative (or not)
  3. Tell us a little bit about the market, what brought you here?
  4. Post the picture(s)
  5. Don’t forget to hashtag it! #MarketFriday by @dswigle
  6. Minimum 250 words

Sad to see so much of the local economy drained like that.

Yes indeed. I see the same ladies whom I used to buy my provisions from week after week and now, they are selling from these small baskets or if those who have a motorbike, they carry it on a larger basket.
My heart does goes to them that now their survival is all being taken away.
