On Sale Marketing After A Stormy Day

A typhoon signal #1 was hoisted last Tuesday as a tropical cyclone approached Hong Kong. It was raised to typhoon 3 later that day and continued throughout the night. Before the typhoon became intense on Tuesday, people had a chance to buy necessary things, especially food, as we were uncertain about how long it will stay in the city. Buyers swarmed across the market and supermarkets. I, on the other hand, just bought food good for that day because I was hoping that the typhoon won't stay long on HK's premises.

IMG_20220723_104056.jpg

On Wednesday, the heavy rain receded, albeit windy and gloomy. The quite strong wind remained in the city, and the pouring tiny drops of rain kept coming and going. Everyone was still advised to stay vigilant and not to go to beaches or do hiking for a while.

IMG_20220810_094310.jpg

I had a little chance to walk in Kowloon, City Hong Kong, where I currently reside. Despite the typhoon, it seemed like things were back to normal and people were back to their respective work. However, the city seemed quieter that day compared to ordinary days. Most probably preferred to stay in their homes. Who doesn't like to slack at home in this cold weather anyway?

IMG_20220810_095231.jpg

After a few minutes' walk, I reached the big wet market and bought some vegetables and meat for lunch and dinner.

IMG_20220723_104104.jpg

The same as ordinary days, it was always busy regardless of the weather condition. It is open even if there is a typhoon to cater to the needs of the buyers. Food supplies are always enough to avoid panic buying.

IMG_20220723_104013.jpg

Wednesday is also a super sale day in one of the biggest supermarkets in Kowloon City and other parts of Hong Kong. It's a big Wednesday sale in AEON Supermarkets.

IMG_20220810_101608.jpg

The supermarket is a one-stop shop for all kinds of daily needs with a wide variety of stocks.

IMG_20220810_101719.jpg

Every Wednesday, this supermarket has a big sale where the majority of the products have huge discounts, the vegetables, fruits, all kinds of meat and seafood, bread, different kinds of packed foods, and other merchandise.

Morning is the best time to visit this supermarket as stocks are newly displayed. Usually, when afternoon comes, only a few remain in the stalls.

IMG_20220810_102850.jpg

And of course, more buyers in the morning too who want to grab the fresh displays.

IMG_20220810_102753.jpg

Fruits are some of the products that are expensive in Hong Kong. So buying them during the big Wednesday sale in AEON Supermarket allows us to save money and we can buy more kinds of fruits as well.

IMG_20220810_102923.jpg

These pumpkins are imported from Japan and we usually buy this kind when we want to make pumpkin-tomato soup. So I grabbed one to make a soup perfect for the weather. This usually costs HK$35, but the price dropped to Hk$32. A few dollar discounts are already big for us buyers.

IMG_20220810_101834.jpg

These eggs are imported from Japan too. From the regular price of HK$23.8 per pack, during the Wednesday sale, it becomes HK$38 for 2 packs. And that saves almost HK$10. So we usually buy more eggs on Wednesday in this supermarket.

IMG_20220810_101928.jpg

Hong Kong only has a few farms, so most of the products are imported, either from China or from countries in Europe and Asia. These meats are imported too, from different countries. They are freshly packed in the supermarket on the same day.

IMG_20220810_102156.jpg

Seafood in Hong Kong is expensive too, so people usually go with frozen ones. But, some frozen seafood is still expensive. Buying them on Wednesday's sale is a big discount.

IMG_20220810_102509.jpg

It's not just products that are ready to cook that are available here, but also food that is ready to eat. Sushi, for instance, has a special price every Wednesday sale. We can buy 3 packs for only HK$100, the cheapest rice sushi rolls are only HK$12 compared to the regular price of HK$26.

IMG_20220810_102603.jpg

For those who are lazy to cook, ready-to-eat dishes of different tastes are also available every day at this supermarket. From vegetables to grilled and fried dishes.

Chinese also love steam, roasted, or grilled chicken and pork cooked in the traditional style. They are also available here. The roasted duck and steamed chicken are my favorites here.

IMG_20220810_102349.jpg

And since the Mooncake Festival is quite approaching, there are different mooncakes in different flavors displayed in different stalls already. I most especially love the lava mooncake and this Doraemon package.

IMG_20220810_102126.jpg

The AEON doesn't only have a supermarket, but different stores with different merchandise too. It has kitchen wares and home appliances.

Beddings, clothes and other apparel, luggage, and other merchandise. Most are discounted on big Wednesday sales.

IMG_20220810_103550.jpg

The mall where AEON Stores are located is a huge one. After marketing, buyers can wander around and visit other shops too.

IMG_20220810_103620.jpg

If you are looking for an item to pamper yourself, Ogawa is there.

IMG_20220810_103514.jpg

There are some boutiques too for ladies who love shopping.

IMG_20220810_103635.jpg

And more shops for casual get-ups.

IMG_20220810_103826.jpg

If you feel hungry after shopping, there are restaurants, tea shops, fast food, and cafes too.

IMG_20220810_103710.jpg

IMG_20220810_103806.jpg

Afternoon coffee at Starbucks would be the best.

IMG_20220810_104012.jpg

There are spas, buffet restaurants, a game arcade, and a cinema in this mall too.

I went inside the mall with a little rain, and went out with a heavy one, lol. This is when my umbrella comes in handy.

IMG_20220810_103906.jpg

It seemed like the tropical cyclone didn't leave the city yet. So I walked back home in the heavy rain under my umbrella on.

IMG_20220810_104320.jpg

What did I buy?

Not really many, but just some eggs, potatoes, mushrooms, and others (not in the photo).
IMG_20220811_101005.jpg

And these vegetables are for tomato soup since the weather was quite cold due to the typhoon.

IMG_20220722_135524.jpg

Here it is, the tomato-pumpkin soup. Of course, it's not only me who'll consume this soup, but all of us at home.

IMG_20220722_144054.jpg

I also cooked pork patties with corn since I craved some fried food. And this was my food for dinner that day 😊.

IMG_20220810_191016.jpg

And that's all. My Market Friday on Wednesday and posted on weekend 😅. Despite the typhoon, I went out to buy food, because why not? We have no stocks that day, lol.

Happy weekend everyone!

It means you guys are experiencing heavy rain and unpleasant weather this week. Hmm. Actually, we had gloomy weather here as well ate.

I love the market there. Quite clean and peaceful. But the prices are very high, looking at it makes me have a headache. Like $20? My gosh! Can't afford to buy. Our budget for 2 weeks grocery is around 4-5k php.

Take care ate!

Ibang iba sa market ng Pinas hehe. Yung pork patties, as in patties sa burger ba? May sabaw and tomato?

The price of fruits and vegetables, really I think it's somehow high in HK unlike here. Added that it was commercialized surely extravagant. But see you there having the Filipina traits as "Madiskarte" hehe.

Haha.. Oo naman.. Mabilis maubos pera dto kya tipid2 din.. Go on sale 🤣

Hello @jane1289
I do hope the thyphoon will take a turn.
That's a lovely market and very nice to see streets surrounding the markets.
There is a good stock of food indeed, for all products it seems. I love one-stop shops like that supermarket, they are so convenient.
I'm happy that I stumbled upon your post because I do love market scenes, and I never made it to Hong Kong, so it's nice to hear a little of what's happening there.
Have a great weekend:))

No more rain so far..the last rainy day was yesterday.. Hk market is a place you should visit in case you come here 😊 clean and convenient

I never imagined it was so expensive in HK. You would be surprised how cheap vegetables and fruit costs here in Germany compared.

We are having a heat wave here and I would love some cold weather and showers! LOL

The rain was after the great heat as well... No more typhoon so it's back to hot weather lol

Wow, your Market Friday post is an entire shopping excursion. What beautiful markets and produce. And the food you made looks fantastic.

That’s great that there’s a market where you can find discounts on Wednesdays.

I’m glad you brought an umbrella so you were ready when it began raining harder!

Thanks.. Yeah it happens every Wednesday.. So people always wait for this day.. Thanks for stopping by

Wow, that brought back fond memories. Going from South Africa I went to visit family in New Zealand about five years ago and ended up with a 14 hour daytime stopover in Hong Kong. I was adamant that I didn’t want to do the normal tourist buzz sightseeing things so I walked out the airport building to the bus depot with loads of red busses that go to various different destinations. I randomly selected one without a clue in the world where I was going and ended up at North Point harbour. I ambled around the streets seeing real people, markets, shops and the real way of life. I felt beyond lucky to see a ceremony with people singing and putting live fish back in the water as they believe they could come back as a fish in an afterlife…….it was beautiful and moving to see & experience. I then jumped on the public ferry and ended up in Kowloon city where I ambled around the city taking in life and seeing sights like you shared. Then I returned to the airport the same way.
I loved it and hopefully can get back one day for a longer visit.

Thanks for sharing your post @jane1289 ………..it stirred & brought back wonderful memories :)

I hope I can vote this comment, but I can't.but thank you..
You had a great decision to roam around HK and had a glimpse of HK life..there are more stories to witness here.. If you want, you can visit my travel blogs 😊

Thanks so much and I really hope I do get back to Hong Kong……….obviously so much more to see and I enjoyed what I did see.

I have been following your travel blogs for a couple of weeks and always enjoy them 😊

Thank you.. 😊

It is a deserved pleasure 😊

I would be like a pig in heaven in that supermarket Jane, so much choice:)
You are still wearing facemasks still?
I would skip on the big mall, I don't like them as feel we are just being herded like cattle in a pen!
Please feed me Jane and look @deraaa burgers are called patties in America and other countries, so our burgers you could say were beefburger patties.

We always wear masks or else we'll be penalized 🤣..
People here often eat beef, mostly pork and chicken.. Probably because beef is more expensive lol

Oh wow getting penalised well damn!
yes I think chicken has to be the most common meat worldwide for that reason:)

Still has strict protocols here. .. Im annoyed wearing masks, especially in Summer..

yeah so is it for covid or that monkeypox

SpongeBob SquarePants made that clear to me. You know, in Bikini Bottom things are so much like living in New York 🤣

jaja gotta love being in Bikini Bottoms 😲 New York doesn't have as good burgers as outs though!

Outs? Is that like your hometown?😏

hehe miss smartypants "ours" 🤣

Ang ganda Jan sis. Daming sale. Novo lang ata ang may sale dito huhu

🤣 . meron nmn. Mahal parin. 🤣

I hope you have not been hit by the Typhoon and that the weather has improved.
It's nice to shop in such a well-stocked market with so much variety, although I didn't know things were so expensive in Kong Kong Kong.
Happy weekend:)

So nice to see the grocery store there!
There are also a lot of AEON stores here.

So meron pla sa ibang bansa.. Kala ko dto lng

Yeah a lot here. 😆

Aeon is such a great store! I love that they have a big sale on Wednesdays! It is truly a one-stop shop! I cannot get over the stock of food that they have. Not only do they have it all, but, it is clean and sanitary there! The entire mall is so so clean and empty!

You are still wearing masks? Our numbers are up and people still aren't wearing masks. They are so inconsistent.

Have you found the price of everything going up weekly or just in general? I can track it here in the US and see the prices going up every week, I have been through many hurricanes and tornados, but, not a typhoon. The tornado is terrible as it is unpredictable. (between the hurricane and it) I am glad it wasn't too bad! This was an amazing post~ You excelled beyond my expectations!!Thank you for participating in #MarketFriday! I appreciate the time and effort that goes into putting a post together for the challenge. It is with great pleasure that I read through and realize how much we have all tried to include things in our world that may be unique to the area. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for them. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. I hope the week has found you healthy and happy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.

I agree!! It was a really interesting andxwell done post!

Thank you and for the tips 🥰

Yay, nagshopping sila! Nagtyphoon pala dyan sis, been rainy here too. Ang hirap mamalengke pag maulan, pinakaayaw ko, lol!

Siguro sarap ng niluto mo na sabaw, tama lang sa panahon :)

Good to know that I do not have to visit your mall or supermarket when I come over, they are the same here🤣

We experienced serious down pour here too last week.

Well this is the season and we will get the best of it.

The supermarket is well packed.

Thanks for sharing your shopping pix

I hope the typhoon is going well. You have a great plan for that day. Commercial centers give complete experiences for buyers, but you have to have time and money, haha.
Your tomatoe and pumpkin soup looks yummy!!
Thanks for sharing this in DreemPort. 🤗

Thanks for visiting ,😊

Hey, @jane1289,

I really enjoyed your photo-essay visit to the market on a rainy day... Thanks for taking me with you!

But there is one thing I have to complain about...

NOW YOU'VE MADE ME HUNGRY! And it's hours before I had planned to eat...
Guess I will have to actually walk with you to the market to work off the extra pounds...😝😜

😄😇😉

@creatr

Amazing! Almost like I was in that supermarket myself, haha 😂. The tomato-pumpkin soup and the pork patties look so inviting! I visited from dreemport.

Yeah they are..thank you

The boxes are gorgeous! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
You have a great abundance in the supermarket!
Can you give a link to the recipe for pork patties with corn, I can not find it 😔

#dreemport

I didn't make a blog about it.. It's just the normal way of making pork patties haha

I hope the tycoon goes away soon. It's always cool to be at home during sure period and Hong Kong being a busy city, that place was indeed quiet.

I love the supermarket, it has almost everything if not every thing and I so much love the structure too for the market, it's really beautiful.

Things must have been really expensive wooing to the fact that most things were imported from other countries but it's a good thing they sell at discount on Wednesday, you just have to try to meet up.

It's a good thing you were able to get all you needed, your dinner looked really crispy and crunchy too. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us Jane, I got to Learn a little about how the Hong Kong market works.

Thanks.. That was last week..so yeah no more typhoon here... I guess the inflation isn't just here in HK, but everywhere around the world.,haha..

Yes I figured it out. And yes the inflation is everywhere dear.

Thank you so much for the points, I truly appreciate it 🥰🥰❤️.
