Travel Teaches Us To See

Travel, accommodation always a cost involved, for market Friday let's go visit somewhere we have been before, however I have never shared what the accommodation looks like.

Each a unique in destination, offering amenities in comfort with more home to home feel, whether a week or weekend, let's go hunting out accommodation!

Having utilized Natal Parks Board for many years with children growing up we realized holidays with young, continuously looking for entertainment at night, change needed to be made.

We settled on the idea of buying time share weeks, joining RCI to enable movement options to different places, however some years we did return to places more than once.

Excess points never were a problem with family members taking their families away or joining up with us and going together.

Sondela Bushveld lodgings many years ago, a place called Sondela Nature Reserve.

Night sky in dry inland region, amazing bird life, good viewing of animals as well, comfortable rustic accommodation.

Bushmans Neck another side to foothills in Southern Drakensburg mountains, different walks with some distance to cover before reaching mountain walks.

Champagne Castle more recent years offers varied accommodation, we enjoyed excellent house set slightly out on the edge next to a small river making it a superb week.

Private accommodation arranged Brackenburn Trout Retreat for extreme peace and quiet, situated to many interesting places to explore, or lay back and watch the birds soar overhead.

Another private accommodation, this is so big you can comfortably fit a few families into this one! Oribi Gorge Guest Farm

Close to the Oribi Gorge Reserve an ideal place to relax and unwind in a stunning old farm homestead.

Back to the Southern Drakensberg where holidays aplenty over the years, another spot offering variety of accommodation. Fairways for the boys when younger was our go to holiday resort offering much of what the children needed in day exploration/hiking and nights to relax watching TV or playing pool at the hotel situated in the grounds.

Another spot on same land is Mountain View Cottages, we have enjoyed these old converted stables now comfy little places.

View from these cottages... Below is roof to hotel, convenient to get to your evening meals if you so wish.

Last but most definitely another to enjoy, we never stayed in the larger accommodation as shown in this photo is Caribbean Estates near Port Shepstone.

Silver Hiver @lizelle enjoys this resort as well, another Hiver @giantbear lives in the town, how lucky she is. Another beautiful part of our country to explore without a doubt.

Views going down to this beach.... Wild coast delightful!

And so we come to the end of this Market Friday with @dswigle hosting the show, yes you pay wherever you go, choose wisely you can see a lot along the way. Happy Friday!

These are some lovely looking places, Joan, I can imagine that you have had joyful times there with your family.
I know that a few images don't tell all, but from the photos, the Brackenburn Trout Retreat and the Caribbean Estates look most appealing to me.

I hope they haven't removed all of the poop from the stables and left some inside for the real countryside feeling when you sleep :)

!BEER and !WINE - both make a nice dinner with !PIZZA :)

Yeah yeah poop was out by the time we arrived, actually large inside with two relatively big bedrooms and exceptionally large lounge, deceiving from the outside. Horses must have had great stables with excellent views in the old days.

Each place is self-catering, Brackenburn most remote which makes it an epic choice. Being in different parts, each offering good walking, hiking and birding selecting one would be impossible.

Maybe the horses had a better home and view than their owners 🤣

I can relate to that, all places have their own advantages and offers, and depending on your preferences you go to one place and next holidays you change to another place.

Wow we have ended up in some real dumps, this is not one of them... Horses definitely had a bit of the good life living here, and so did we.

Enjoy your weekend, you must be off for a couple of days now! Long week behind you.

!BEER and PIZZA quick tonight.
!LUV Opsitkers alweer (candle light again).... Loadshedding!

That's good to hear - not about the horses lifes, but about yours :)

My weekend will start tomorrow morning when I'll ride home from work, take a shower and have a coffee 😎
Next week is going to be even longer because I'll be working on Sunday, but Saturday is free :) At the end of October I want to take a few days off if the weather is ok.

Yikes Johann that is a long week, then another back to back, you will need a good break by the end of month.

Fortunately over many years of holidays can honestly say we have only ended up in two that I would not put anything in, not living nor dead!

It's not that I am doing hard work, and actually I'm doing less today than during the week in my office 😎
I hope that the work I have to do next week will make good process, so that I really can take a couple of days off and don't need to think of work.

I have also lived in places which I would love to have never seen them, but yours sound much worse.

Hello dear friend @joanstewart good afternoon
What beautiful lodging places you have chosen for your vacation breaks. Beautiful images, I appreciate that you showed us
I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid afternoon and a wonderful weekend

Always saved to have one holiday a year which we thoroughly enjoyed, now perhaps will return to using National Parks again for absolute peace, most are more remote will not have cellphone connection, no TV or outside disturbance, just life!

There has already been too much ENGAGE today.

Those are all awesome places :) Which is your favorite?

Very hard to say with each offering something different, for comfort in accommodation Fairways would win hands down.

And how about for adventure ❤️?

Adventures have been shared over the last five years here on blockchain, all links have been transferred to Hive. Perhaps time is right to curate them, you giving me ideas thank @wrestlingdesires 💡

I have a few posts which need adding to collections too 😂 Why are we so slow to use that feature?

We slow on uptake in curating our own work into collection, silly us! Have a good week.

I just did mine - now I challenge you to do yours, lol

Same to you 💓

I love the look of the water I mean the way the color came out so cool. You got a nice shot bro

Remote places offer a quality you don't see everywhere, thanks for visiting.

Ohh. That's true though

All the photographs you have shared in this post are really awesome view of the nature. anyone can find these photographs very very useful as a natural photography. thank you very much for sharing and I hope everyone will enjoy your wonderful photography of nature.

Getting out to enjoy what nature has to offer, once there hiking and walking to actually feel what is around. Recently I find many lay around swimming pools soaking up only what is on offer, not venturing out.

Been to many of those Lady Joan, but not all of them.
A great post here.

!BEER

Travel to Eastern Transvaal and Cape with many stops, one can never see it all. Only definite is working toward a break from home at least once a year.

Was planning a trip eight years ago, things have not worked out as planned so short trips suffice, perhaps one day....

!PIZZA

Oh yes, so wish that I can also take my dream trip Lady Joan.
Been talking about for 20 years and still no joy.
So the short ones it is.

!BEER

Overland long trip we should have done years ago, now I am not too sure with husband suffering back pain. Possibly one day who knows.

That's the thing isn't it? We continue to postpone thinking about one day we will and in the meantime age takes its toll.
Told by the specialist today that my left knee is kaput and will urgently have to be replaced.
I have a CD of the x-rays and rhe scans and yes, it's bone to bone.
Wakes me at least 5 times at night with sharp pains.

Back will also have to wait as we have to to the priorities first.

Do you want to win SOME BEER together with your friends and draw the BEERKING.

Oh we have so many beautiful places to visit; I still want to visit Oribi Gorge Guest Farm, it's such a breathtaking area! We're also very satisfied with our purchase of points but are with Dream Vacations; it's given us some awesome holidays, thanks for the shoutout, Caribbean Estates is one of my favourites indeed!
Happy holidays;)

Guest farm has the most beautiful old furniture it takes one back in time, has six or seven bedrooms sleeping two in each and three bathrooms, you could quite comfortably go down with a few families.

We are looking to sell our September/October school holiday week, six sleeper at Fairways with family grown up, still have points at RCI for another four years.

Holidays will always be looked forward to or travel through the country, just stopping off when one feels the urge, who knows what the future will bring.

Have a great weekend, hope you feeling better!

Glad to hear that development is happening there :)

Country needs tourism which stopped with recent events in the world, hopefully soon we will see visitors arrive again.

Interesting post, Joan and although I have only been to one of them - brought back memories - Champagne castle

Loved that spot, first one we made a visit up to after long lockdown! Sheer relaxation.

Yes, sheer beauty and especially when the snow is on the mountain tops

You have had some beautiful places to holiday in, Joan. I really like the design of the Champagne Castle, especially the roof. I see in Europe some houses are barn conversions. Not a thing I see done around here but, why not, if it’s a good building. Horses are definitely not used much anymore on the farms with all the tractors and other farm equipment available .

Thatch roofing is not used everywhere due to lightning or baboons ripping into it, always gives a wonderful homely feel.

Using old barns not something you see here too often either, Britain appear to be doing a lot in conversions.

Horses now run wild in many countries no longer serving man, not so much here with horse and donkey still in use in many parts of the country for moving goods.

You must feel very fortunate to have been able to travel to so many beautiful areas.
South Africa offers so much and hopefully one day all of its citizens will be able to live in peace.
There're so many places that I would love to visit, but I've got a feeling most of them I will never see, and experiencing them here on #hive will have to do. If the world wasn't so crazy and full of hatred my adventurous side may stand a chance of becoming a reality.

Getting out of the city madness is always a problem driving, once in the countryside a pleasure. South Africa is reasonably large, each region very different.

I don't see change in the formidable future, too many living in the past fearful of moving forward together much like many other countries.

Visiting places here in Hive, I thoroughly enjoy seeing through the lens of members, stories of places I will never get to see now, yes bridge the gap!

All these places look so wonderful. I was blessed to day to go to the Nederberg Wine Farm in the Cape. My post to follow.

Cape is beautiful, have a wonderful evening!

Psst: NB: Last time I did the Cape wine tour wine tasting was free at all of them, now that was a long, long time ago! No wonder it remains amazing.

Not sure since I've only been to the one - and I had a most delicious meal which my friend treated me to

They never offered meals, only wine tasting with possibly a little cheese LOL, it was in the 70's.

Restaurants at farms was not done back then, would imagine they are super popular and a relaxing place to enjoy good company.

Absolutely superb - atmosphere and food both outstanding.

You're welcome @joanstewart, that's with pleasure! Have a nice day 😊🌹 And thanks to you for your everyday motivation here!

I can see that your many holidays in so many varied places have been very soul healing. What fun you have had over the years @joanstewart.

Different areas to enjoy the outdoors, having time away is a must. Living on the coast we more often than not went inland.

That looks like a lot of fun traveling it would certainly have been a experience and a eye opener.

Early years in National Parks Board there we found absolute peace, as boys grew up they needed a bit more entertainment.

Yes some lovely places, just a taste of packing up for at least a week away every year.

Nice to have those memories @joanstewart wish you could do it all again 😊
