One stopover we never fail to visit on our way to one of the resorts in the central Drakensberg is the charming Valley Bakery.
Situated on a farm with its own grain mill which churns out the very best stoneground flours, added to its charm.
Situated in an old tin-roof house at the end of a gravel driveway, with the majestic Drakensberg mountains as a backdrop, one finds an artisan bakery started by the farmer's wife.
The most delectable bakes and local produce are sold here, tempting one to fill the shopping basket to the brim.
The beauty of this bakery is that one can buy just a slice of a cake or tart, which is what I always do as it's way too difficult making a choice, although their artisan bread always goes into the shopping basket.
Local produce like jams, preserves, chutneys, pesto, sauces and other delights are also sold here.
The most fascinating product was 'planting chocolate' which actually are vegetable and herb seeds, compressed into blocks of soil and organic fertilizer to resemble a bar of chocolate!
Of course my shopping basket always is filled with the stoneground flours milled right here on this farm.
As one looks around, you cannot help being enraptured by the charm of this bakery/ restaurant/ art gallery.
The charming vintage decor is further enhanced by gorgeous paintings, creating the feel of being in a beautiful flower garden.
The kiddies playground keeps the little ones entertained while mom and dad are shopping, so everyone leaves this busy little gem in the middle of nowhere more than satisfied.

All the produce look so mouthwatering, particularly the meringue tart,I love the simplicity and casual piping on top. I see they have a sit in area as well, that would be lovely for afternoon tea. Yumm!

I !LUV cakes and !PIZZA. Of course the latter is not in sweet taste. At least not for me, but I heard about sweet pizzas, and that some people like them.

Wicked, that place is so wicked in variety and taste we always has a great meal there. On our way home we stop again to do exactly what you mentioned, buy to bring home, need a spare trailer for all the tasty treats this farm house offers.
Sounds like you had a lovely time away, a spot we came to enjoy thoroughly and hope to get back again one day soon.
