This temporary fish market sits next to the highway, making it well accessible for fishermen, vendors, and customers. Every Wednesday there gets a massive crowd around this market. To get fresh water and sea fish, this place is the best.
They don't have any shops or anything. The vendors use huge bowls, buckets, or even sometimes just a polythene sheet to throw their fish over. All the fish gets sold off in the first half of the day. So customers must go early in the morning to buy the best fish.
Let me give you a walking tour of the marketplace.
Our usual wet market vendors sell fish in a categorized way; unlike this street market. Here, they put all different fishes in the same place and sell them at a wholesale rate which is quite average compared to the usual market price.
That's the reason so many people come here to buy fresh fish.
If you don't have the patience to wait in a crowd, negotiate the price, be under the sun, or feel the hot western then this marketplace is not for you.
This type of street market is never well organized, so I didn't expect that either but only a reasonable price.
And the variety of fish!
We usually can't find the same in our regular market. Even if we do, they are never this fresh.
Don't get scared seeing the bear feet, and slipper sandals here and there. Also, you will probably find fish guts & scales on the ground.
After the first half of the day, the cleaner of the city corporation will take them out and you will not see a trace of this market anymore!
My in-laws will be visiting me this weekend, I'm so excited. So I bought a few types of fish this Wednesday from this market. The freshwater rohu fish, lobster, and shoal fish that I bought were pretty reasonable in price and very fresh.
