Market Friday: An Unexpected Shopping Spree!

in Market Friday2 years ago

I didn't plan to go anywhere today. It was set to be another boring day. It was raining cats and dogs. Weirdly, There was light and I already filled my house with cereals and food for the day. I have a rapid chess tournament tomorrow and I haven't even prepared. I was streaming Netflix when a friend called "Hey Sam, Let's go out"

And that's how I ended up in a supermarket. I got some items and enjoyed my evening. Here is my #MarketFriday post. It's been a long time I wrote one.

Today is #MarketFriday initiated by @dswigle. Feel free to check the rules and share your story.

The Beginning - A Quick Start

I was surprised to see a lot of people outside. The rain only took a pause and the clouds signifies that it would rain again yet, the numbers were just as it would on a sunny day. The dark and cold atmosphere didn't make a difference.
We headed to Everyday Supermarket.

We didn't waste time, we got some food items. I bought some nice snacks. My friend already told me the bills would be taken care of however, I tried to be careful as to what I picked.

I took pringles, Golden morn (Even though I had two at home), Milk and two packs of ginger tea.

It's crazy how the prices of these items sky rocked, could it be because of the dollar scarcity?. I guess so.

Take a look at this airwick automatic Air freshener that now cost a fortune :)

Me starring at the price like "Seriously?"

I comtemplated and decided not to add the air freshner to his bill. I'd come and pick it up another time. I actually need it in my place. Because most times I close my windows and doors and it feels different when I open them again. So the automated air freshener can help keep my room in order.

Books - Why Not

I didn't plan to buy a book but I got eye-trapped by one. Why Not by Pat Utomi - pat utomi is a Nigerian political economist and professor of entrepreneurship. The book which is a memoir focuses on utomi's unpleasant experiences during his run for the Delta's state governorship position in 2018.

I got the book. It was expensive anyway. But Why Not?

This is the first book on politics I'm gonna ever own. I have read a few of them but I never really got to buy any. I heard stories about Pat which I didn't understand, however from the few pages of this book. I've come to feel his pain already and I would understand more as I flip through the remaining pages.

I have always kept the "There are three sides of a story" quote in my head. I know the popular opinion, so I'm diving into his now - Hopefully I can decode the truth. When it comes to Nigerian politics, you never can tell!

Something New

I've been here three times but I've never gone upstairs. Today, I decided to go up and take pictures from that angle. I already completed my mini shopping and we were about leaving. It was when I went up I discovered they had a games center.

They played all sort of games upstairs. From Snooker to table tennis. Even board games were being played. I saw people playing chess, but I wasn't tempted to play. From their moves, I could tell they were patzers :)

I inquired about their Virtual reality games as they looked interesting. I saw people play them and from my point of view, they were having fun.

In Conclusion...

Today turned out to be quite interesting despite the odd beginnings. Glad I could write about it. Now, I have to go prepare for my chess tournament tomorrow. Its a rapid tournament and I'm seeded number #4 at the moment. I have a rapid rating of 1986 and A good tournament tomorrow should see me cross the 2000 mark.

That is a really nice store! How nice of your friend to take care of your purchases. I need a friend like that. :) Did he buy the book too? Score! It sounds like it would be an interesting book.

I remember that you play chess. How did you get into chess and is there a financial gain to it or do you just play for fun? I know you are seeded, but, I have no idea if that benefits you financially.

I love the view from the top! I am not a big gamer and I try not to let it suck me in!!! These are great pictures and a fun write-up! How did the chess game go??Thank you for participating in #MarketFriday! I appreciate the time and effort that goes into putting a post together for the challenge. It is with great pleasure that I read through and realize how much we have all tried to include things in our world that may be unique to the area. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for them. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. I hope the week has found you healthy and happy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.
