Green Bluff in the Autumn

in Market Friday2 years ago (edited)

Where do apples, pumpkins, squash, pears, cider, pumpkin donuts, corn mazes, pony rides and vendor booths all turn up at once? At Green Bluff in the fall, that's where! This community of farms and orchards is located just a few miles north of Spokane, Washington. I try to get there every year, because it's such a beautiful place to visit. Two or three farms in that area go all out with attractions and activities, while many others simply sell their produce at stands or barns. Saturdays and Sundays are busiest, so this year my daughter and I chose to go on the first Friday of October; we were bringing along her infant daughter, and didn't feel like struggling with crowds and traffic jams.

Beck's Harvest House is the central attraction at Green Bluff. The grounds are beautiful, and the store and restaurant offer fun and tasty items. We weren't there at the right time to get in on the pumpkin donuts, which was sad. But we enjoyed bratwurst and pulled pork for lunch, sitting outdoors where we could enjoy the trees and flowers pictured above and below.

These flower pots were on the steps leading up to a small gazebo, where live music is performed on the weekends. Recorded music was playing while we were there, and little children were scampering up and down the steps, and dancing with great abandon on the platform. I would have taken a picture of them, but I didn't think their parents would want them to appear on Hive without permission.

The store offers a wide variety of produce, food, and gift items, including bulk tea, apple cider, wine, plaques and other decor items, aprons, soup packets, jelly, and much more.

Down the slope from the store/restaurant we found huge tents set up with all manner of fall produce for sale. This small display shows samples of almost everything available. More produce pictures follow.

I grew squash in my own garden, so didn't purchase any here. But we bought two of these cute little gourds for decor in my daughter's apartment.

Neither of us took any pictures of the apples or pears, but there were boxes stacked all over in one of the tents. We sampled a few varieties of each, and bought just a few to eat. We considered it to have been a successful outing!

Most pictures taken by me on my Android phone, except the last two, which were taken by my daughter on her I-phone.

If my memory serves me correctly, this is my first post to #MarketFriday by @dswigle

Yeah it's huge. thank you very much for sharing and it is interesting to see your post with lots of photography of such a wonderful vegetables and fruits.

They do have a nice variety there. Thanks for your comment.

Even though we're on opposite sides of the country (waves hello from New Hampshire) this looks wicked familiar! What an awesome way to start posting in Market Friday. 😊

And good plan to go there when it wasn't too busy, especially having a little one with you. I love that they have live music there too (good call not including those pictures - it's always a wise decision to fall on the side of privacy when taking pictures of others in public), and I especially love the Halloween displays.

Thanks for taking us all along with you to such an awesome autumn excursion!

Hello back from the west side! Thanks for your kind words. Glad you enjoyed the virtual tour.

Sounds like a great time. I love it when farms have special events like this. Great scenery.

It's truly a beautiful area at any time of year. I need to go in the spring and take pictures when the fruit trees are blossoming.

Ahh, Beck's Pumpkin Donuts, the Greenbluff pastry of legend, lol! I used to love to take the kids up there each year. They spent a fair amount of their little kid-hood picking peaches, strawberries, apples, and more from up on the Bluff.

Love all the fall produce photos, glad you and the girls had such a fun outing:)

The baby cooperated nicely, only screeching for the last 15 minutes on the way home. It was a really good day for an outing.
