Nope, it is not Saturday (private joke), peeps ... it is #marketfriday!!! And I shall not miss out on one of my favorite weekly challenges!
It has been a very hectic and personally challenging week for me. I spent most of my morning at Kaiser Hospital for a procedure, lab work, and x-rays!
On my way back from the hospital,I came across a street corner fruit vendor!
As soon as the weather turns nice, fruit vendors set up around town on street corners -- strawberries, oranges, melons, and a wide variety of other fruits. I lucked out that this fruit stand was selling mangoes, and I've been craving mangoes since last week!
Sylvia is the name of the street vendor. She told me that she and her sister take turns setting up and selling fruits in this corner. I asked her how she's liking the warm weather and many people she meets in her job. And she says... "I am really liking it because I have a job and beats having to stay at home!"
I think she articulated very well the general sentiment of many who are able to make good use of their time by finding ways to earn a few bucks here and there when possible.
I just got home, and as soon as I take this photo of the mangoes I bought from the street corner fruit stand, I shall upload this article! (I only have 15 minutes left to do this)

I don't see too many Street Vendors here is because of our city bylaws and food services and handling regulators. There are Farmer's markets are nice but they are only once a week on the weekends, great produce but because of covd only a limited number of people can enter the market. the vendor is allowed to pick and bag the fruit and a separate individual process the payment electronic only, etc etc etc...

For sure there are challenges setting up a street corner fruit stand. I am happy to patronize these stores when I can. Some street corner fruit stands are super extensive and have pick-up truckloads of produce, as well as other foods, like dried fruits, nuts, and preserves. There are also street corner vendors of cooked food being sold at the back of vans like tamales is a common item I see. They have them in styrofoam boxes. You know what... I should do a sequel on this article by featuring the non-food trucks selling food, LOL!
AT Kaiser Hospital, just like other stores, they also do not take cash because of the pandemic. I wonder if there is a real issue with cash... has anyone gotten sick with covid handling currency?

Goodness gracious, you need to at least try it. I always say that it is good to try all kinds foods! Nah, I think everyone is free to taste or not taste , eat or not eat the food that they like. I recall the time when I did not like peas. And when my parents were not looking, I'd put it inside my socks. LOL!

Imagine this... one time my socks got so full with peas cuz MOm just kept giving me more (I learned then hide them slow and not too fast). I had to wait until everyone has left the table. .. and when everyone was gone, slowly walked to my room with my socks dripping from the sauce that was with the peas, then hurriedly washed them in the bathroom sink with Dove. I always wondered if my Mom knew about it. If she did, she never confronted me with it, LOL!

Silvia and her sister sell what beautiful fruits, I love mangoes, here we eat them as desserts and sometimes we make ice creams or juices, it is very exquisite. That you enjoy it a lot

I will know about the lab and Xray results in a couple of days. I certainly hope that everything related to my health is good! Otherwise, everything is very well here in California! The weather is just beautiful, although very hot temps at times.
That is another thing we have in common with each other, @jlufer. .. I love mangoes very much!
About Sylvia and her sister, she said that they go to the fruit wholesalers, and with a small seed capital, purchase a few boxes of fruits. Then they set up a stand with a table and umbrella at any street corner and sell the fruits by the box or by piece. It seems easy enough, but I know that there must be some challenges doing this.

I did street sales at some point in my life, it is not easy at all, the climate is one of them, it depends a lot on it, of course the good attention and kindness also count dear friend @ silversaver888 crossing my fingers for the results, But if you want an advance, everything will be fine

You like mangoes? You must try mangoes from Philippines I'm sure you'll love it.
YES!!! I have tried them. It was the sweetest, smoothest fruit... the meat was almost like the texture of creme caramel!! I L-O-V-E it!!!
If you look at the photo again, beside these mangoes that I got are mangoes which the variety is "Philippine" Mangoes , but grown in Mexico. So I am guessing that the Mango seeds made it to Mexico. I didn't buy them because I've has it in the past, and it is not the same as what I tasted when I visited the Philippne Islands three years ago!

We have a lot of farm stands that utilize the honor system. You choose your produce and then pay the box. It works out well for all.

I like that you have street vendors. We have some, but, not as many as we used to have in the New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts areas. It is more organized here, although I liked the flash markets back home.

Heheh... I honestly thought that I missed Friday, LOL!
Did you and your siblings or friends every set-up a lemonade stand? I think that the attraction to me of these street corner fruit stands stems from my memories of selling lemonade during summers. Neighbors come and passers-by stop to buy... and I realize later that they do it just for courtesy and as an encouragement for us.. perhaps help nurture that entrepreneurial spirit in the youth of America.
Anyway, in addition to the fact that I like mangoes, I stopped because Sylvia looked like she needed some boost of confidence. She only had five boxes of fruit to sell, unlike those pick-up trucks with sacks full of produce ! And it was HOT!!!
