This Merket Friday day organised by @dswigle is devoted to supermarkets that have become the main source of food and products for people.
From the one hand it's a great place with really CHEAP food and products.
Yes, there are no nice shelves there, and most items are kept there just in boxes, and in general, the store isn't nice, but people like it because it's cheap. Nowadays it's not the time of good prosperity for majority of people, most of them are close to poverty line or even have crossed it already, that's why such extra cheap supermarkets are so popular.
But from the other hand...they do NOT sell food. They sell something that can be eaten, but it's not food, because the quality of products is very low. If we look at the ingridients....OMG, we can find there anything except natural products. Milk without milk, chocolate that is made not of cacao and cacao butter, cheese without milk etc...
It's a great pity people have to eat such food because they have no possibility to buy better one.
It's a great pity when people just take such food as a norm.
But still there are many pluses in these shops because they sell frruits, nuts and many household goods that can npt harm our health, and we can really save money.
We went there for some of such products, and I'll show you what we saw there today.

the price is about 1,5$ for a big package
If you think the main Russian passtion is vodka - NO, it's a stereotype, the things changed long ago.
Now the champion is beer.
The price starts from 0.5$ for 500ml and all are happy.
But vodka is still rather popular
Not bad one costs about 6$ for 700 ml
Wine, or I don't know what it is for sucha price, but it starts from 2$ for 1 liter
It's called "powder wine" here meaning that it is made not from grapes.
Cheap copies of well-known drinks are also popular.
This one imitates champagne. There are copies for martini that are super popular too.
The price goes from 3-4$.
One more Russian drug - seeds! Are you surprised?:)
Sunflower and pumpkin seeds are just Hit:)
Can't explain it but almost all people are fond of them, even kids.
It's better than chips at least..
Rows of super harmful and super sweet drinks with tons of sugar! But people like it all over the world..
Less than 1$ for a big bottle
Even kids' fod is sold here, and many Mums buy it. Actually, it's just the same that are sold in other shops but much cheaper, so not this supermarket is guilty in such products one their shekves, but the system in general.
My brother worked on one of the factories that prodiced such kids' food.
The result - he never fed his kids with it.
One small portion costs 0,5$ here. It's easy and comfortable for Moms, but it's not about health unfortunately.
Cheap soup and champoos are popular too
The minimal price is 0.8$, and it can be used during 1 month or so. Of course, it's cool, but it's better not to know what it is made from as well in this case..
At last my favourite rows where we buy dried fruits.
Apricots cost 5$ for 1 kg
Dates are 3$
Mango is 2$ for 100g
Nuts are my passion too
cashew is 2,5$ for 250g
pistachios is less than 2$ for 150g
We can buy also some good for painting and writing for my son
This time we were lucky to find a cup with his favoutite superhero now:) He was so happy;)

The price of stuff are relatively higher than its over here if I'm compare in term of conversion from dollar to naira, though the value of naira is nothing to write home about.
do you have lower prices? and where are you from?
It's not actually low, cause dollar is way above naira in terms of value. Am from Nigeria.

I have a long time without visiting a hyper market, long before the pandemic, whose product layout was very similar to the one you show in your pictures. I don't know if they still sell the products, wholesale, and at lower prices as they did some years ago.
I was very struck by the "wine powder" that is not made from grapes, so what are they made of?
Regarding prices, I could only tell you about a very famous Cola drink, a 2 liter bottle at $ 1.9. I am quite out of date with the prices, maybe someday, I will make a similar tour and I will be able to tell you about some similar products that are available in this country.

ooh Cola is rather expensive, it's chaper here, or maybe it's not Cola, just like that wine that is not wine:))
wine powder means wine is made not of grapes itself but from the waste that is left during wine making, and then it's dried and melted, so it's like powder. I can't say the exact technology becuse I was never too much interested in it, but in fact, it means wine of very very low quality.
1 liter of good wine can't cost 2$ I think;)

I was telling you that I haven't gone back to shop at the hypermarket that has a very similar layout to the market you show us in your post, because it is located far from my house and you have to travel by car and, because of the problems we are suffering due to the gasoline supply, I prefer to shop in places very close to my house.
In the city where I live there are places, called bodegones, where they sell imported products (in dollars or bolivars). Of course, very expensive. I tend to buy basically necessary products that are accessible to the family budget in markets where prices are cheaper or economical but always close to home. And Cola, is not a product that we consume regularly, so I was not very updated with its price.
Oops! I find this drink made from grape waste very interesting, I had not read anything about it. Very interesting indeed. And yes, a bottle of good wine must be more expensive, I don't know its price nowadays because I haven't bought it for many years.I used to be able to buy it in that hypermarket I have been telling you about that had wholesale prices but I could still buy retail products.

Regarding gasoline, it's a bit of a long story ... The country stopped producing oil and therefore gasoline. Subsequently, it began to be brought from other countries, including Russia. At that time we began to pay for it at international prices.
We went through waves in which the waves to supply gasoline have been very long and you can last up to 24 hours. Nowadays the supply has improved, thank God! but you can still only get gas once a week, so we try to reduce consumption by moving to nearby areas.
wow...I haven't heard about it. A big problem for the country. Of coirse, closer shops are the only way out in this case.
Some of the prices are higher, especially on pretend food. I cannot compare really, I usually go to organic markets or farmers' markets. A great comparison shopping!

yeah, organic shops are the only variant to find really something eatable and useful.
But the prices there are extremely high....
It's expensive to be healthy, but it's more expensive to be sick now..
