Marketfriday in St. Petersburg

It's a little walk down Bolshaya Morskaya (Big Sea) Street. I started taking pictures when I saw this summer restaurant veranda. These verandas were allowed to open a week ago, and they're very popular. It is forbidden to be inside restaurants, only to buy take-out food - or sit outside on the restaurant veranda. In warm, sunny weather, it's even more pleasant outside.

The entrance to the restaurant is blocked by a table. The trays with food from the kitchen are brought here. The courier with a thermal backpack is waiting for the order to be delivered.

I cross Nevsky Prospekt and find myself on a pedestrian section of Bolshaya Morskaya Street. This is a favorite place for artists and musicians. It sells paintings that are created right on the spot. You can get your portrait or caricature if you pose for fifteen minutes.

Usually there are a lot of souvenir sellers here, but now they are much smaller due to the absence of tourists in the city. But T-shirts and caps are still easy to buy here.

There's a music band just before you go out into the square. Spectators are placed in a semicircle on granite slabs. It's the end of the street, or to be precise, the beginning of the street. At the front is Palace Square, the central square of our city.

Thank you very much!

BTW, how much are those artwork?!

I don't know, I didn't ask that question.

I was wondering cause it something I'll most likely buy :D

Are you talking about paintings that are painted with spray cans or about portraits? I can ask about the price next time.

This one ! I wonder if it's much cheaper than here. Besides, the artwork is distinct as well.

Hi, I did not forget about these paintings:) I went to this place several times, but I have not seen these guys. But there were other artists with similar technique, I photographed their advertisement with the Internet address:

THANK YOU SO MUCH !!

I'll make sure to check them on instagram :)

я бы предположил ценник в радиусе 500-1000? отталкиваясь от платёжеспособного спроса....

Не знаю:) Думаю, что скорее от 1000.

awesome walk and visual story. city is back to business... but still wearing those figi-tree-protectors

Thank you!

Nice to see places with more life and activity and people getting back to some sense of their lives again. So is it not bad in Russia with the lock down rules?

People got tired of the rules and stopped following them.

Lol gotta love the Russians they don’t take no shit

What a lovely setting to sit at and do some people watching after I have a cup of something coffee-ish. Noted that they have that social distancing thing down pat. I wonder if we go back right now if that courier is still waiting? I can only hope they get paid well or tipped grandly.

Bolshaya Morskaya Street looks like the place to be, for sure! So much artwork, they work so fast. Many touristy places I have been around the world have the artsy area dedicated to producing art on the spot. I love to see what they can come up with, in a matter of minutes. Usually from a spray can. It's insanely awesome! Of course, I wish I could be that talented, but, I love watching it. In NYC they do it right down on Times Square where all the tourists go. I say, follow the money!

It is so awesome that you are back in business there, although, like everywhere, lacking in tourists. Good and bad, right? The tourist brings my city money, but, for once, the city belongs to the people again. I love reading your posts, they are always interesting!

It is people like yourself that make this challenge successful! The different cultures are showcases here and everyone is interested in life outside of their country, or perhaps many are. So many differences and yet, some the same. Thank you for making this a wonderful place to walk through your posts! In case you forgot anything or anyone is reading this and is curious about it, this will clear that up!

If we talk about tourists, this is a very unusual summer! I do not remember anything like it, although in the 90s Russia was not the popular tourist destination. In summer we have a lot of tourists and the locals go on vacation. On Bolshaya Morskaya Street you can easily hear Italian, French, Chinese and Korean speech, more often than Russian. But not this year! This year everyone has a vacation where they live.

Thank you!

It is true!!! Here too! Washington, DC is a ghost town for tourists! I never see many Americans here in the summer! We all go on vacation! LOL

Thank you for joining us in #MarketFriday!
