Hello everyone! Today I am going to share some pictures I took during my visit to the supermarket recently. I noticed that the items and decorations for the upcoming Chinese New Year are already up. At least 80% of the supermarket looks red, in welcoming the auspicious festival. This is my entry for this week's #MarketFriday tag. Thank you @dswigle for hosting this challenge. I took too many pictures and hence, I am splitting them into half where I will be posting some today while the rest of the pictures of my trip on next week.
Festival Decorations
I found a ton of festival decorations. Let me show you some of them. They varied in sizes from small to large and came in different types ranging from small display items to large hanging decorations that can be hung at the entrance of homes.
Check out these beautiful flower decorations. They are all artificial of course but they do add a pop of colour to our space when we set them up. They are all in different shades of red and the one that deviates the most from the colour of luck is pink. The colour of red is considered auspicious for the festival.
These are used for the traditional lion dance which is done during the opening ceremonies of shops or during the festival to usher good luck in.
These are small hanging decorations suitable for small spaces and homes. They can be used indoors. Of course they can't be lit up like real lanterns as these are miniatures but they still look good.
This is a large fan decoration with the words of blessings on it. There are also rabbits because the upcoming new year will be the year of the rabbit.
Here are some rabbits in golden shades that make great displays. The colour of gold is considered prosperous.
These are some large lanterns. They are usually hung at the yard areas of homes. They come in different shapes and sizes. The one on the left is the standard round lantern with some good luck words while the one on the right is a pineapple which is also considered auspicious. Other types are fish lanterns and yellow pineapples.
Here are some hanging cards with good and auspicious words printed on them. I think it done with the faith that these positive words will eventually manifest themselves.
These are similar but larger in size. They can be hung vertically and I think it is also space saving as they can be hung verticallly.
The decorations above are larger and have big images printed on them. The animal of the year is given more importance while the words are printed on the edges. These are my favourite because I am an 'image person' and I also think that they look really cute :)
Traditional Outfits
The traditional outfit of women is cheongsam while men wear samfoo. There were many traditional outfits that I found. The above are the ones for children. They set up a cheongsam for the girl mannequin while a casual outfit for the boy. I wish they put a samfoo on for the boy too so it would have been fair.
These are some classic looking cheongsam that were on sale. Unfortunately, there were only a few outfits for boys.
However, there were some choices for men. Samfoo which is the traditional outfit were on sale. There were also tops for men in a fusion style where traditional meets casual.
These were the outfits on sale for women. I found both traditional and casual outfits. They were mostly in red.
Here's another section, for women again. Women had most choices compared to the others in terms of outfits this time.
This is a closer look of the top the female mannequin was wearing. They were in different colours too. These are not traditional but casual and suitable alternative for those who don't own a cheongsam.
This is the same blouse but in red shade.
I was very surprised that it was also available in black as that is uncommon. However, I don't recommend getting it because it is considered inauspicious to wear black outfits during new year.
These are few other outfits that leaned more to casual style.
Thank you for dropping by and I wish you a great weekend ahead =)
Wow, NYE was just a week ago and now it's time for CNY 😄 even supermarkets around me have already decorated places with lampions too.
