One day in the morning going into my room, I found on the floor a small moth fluttering little, I assumed it was dying, grabbed it, placed it in a glass cup and took it to my desk where I was going to work on the computer. When I finished working in the afternoon, the moth had already died and I opted to capture some photographs of it.

The moth is a species of the family Geometridae, subfamily Geometrinae, specifically belonging to the genus Oospila. This genus includes 79 species.

The moth is very small and to give an idea of the size I compare it in the following photograph with a bell pepper seed.

Oospila species are slender-bodied, their wings are typically green and have a creamy blotches pattern. The hindwing spots are generally similar to the forewing spots. Some species have more complex patterns.
Las especies de Oospila son de cuerpo delgado, sus alas son típicamente verdes y tienen un patrón de manchas cremosas. Las manchas de las alas posteriores generalmente son similares a las manchas de las alas anteriores. Algunas especies presentan patrones más complejos.
In some species of the subfamily Geometrinae the green color of the wings is relatively dull and unstable, and fades or discolors readily. In other species the color is brighter and much more stable, tending to discolor much more slowly. These observations led to the suggestion that there might be two separate pigment systems related to tetrapyrroles or chlorophyll but it was discovered that these pigments are not responsible for the color. The green color is due to a single pigment known as geoverdin, however, the reasons for the instability or stability of the pigment are not well known.

On the head, the eyes are compound, large and round. The antennae of both sexes are bipectinate, that is, in shape they resemble a comb, in which the "teeth" are on both sides. The antennas are best seen in the following photographs.

The ventral and lateral surfaces of the abdomen are cream colored.

One thing I noticed is that their wings let light through, they are translucent.

Finally, I placed the moth between the stems of a spearmint plant.

Admiro tu pasión por estudiar insectos y todos esos elementos de la naturaleza. Particularmente no me gustan mucho y hasta no soporto a algunos como las cucarachas, pero siempre viene bien conocer el entorno que nos rodea.
