Las anomalías de forma en los dientes pueden darse durante la etapa embrionaria de vida intrauterina así como también durante el crecimiento y desarrollo de nuestra vida, algunas aparecen por consecuencias de diversos golpes y traumatismos en dientes de leche que va afectar a los permanentes, seguimos conociendo más en profundidad todas las anomalías de forma que afectan a nuestras piezas dentarias, en esta publicación conoceremos todo lo relacionado a las raíces supernumeraria.

Las raíces supernumeraria son una anomalía de forma que afecta a los dientes, presenta mayor predilección por los grupos dentarios de premolares, molares y cordales en el maxilar inferior, este tipo de anomalía es diagnosticada y observada por medio de las radiografías panorámicas, los primeros y segundos molares van a presentar clínicamente normalmente presentan dos raíces pero en algunos casos van van existir ciertas variaciones en la anatomía dentaria, por lo que pueden tener de tres a cuatro raíces.

Supernumerary roots are an anomaly of shape that affects the teeth, with greater predilection for the premolars, molars and wisdom teeth in the lower jaw, this type of anomaly is diagnosed and observed by means of panoramic radiographs, the first and second molars will clinically present normally have two roots but in some cases there will be certain variations in the dental anatomy, so they may have three to four roots.

Comúnmente la raíz supernumeraria tendrá una ubicación distolingual, que quiere decir lejos de la cara lingual del diente por lo que su tercio cervical puede conservar otras dos raíces más hacia distal, la forma que van a conservar estas raíces pueden ser cónicas o redondeadas, algunas de las raíces supernumeraria pueden ser finas, pero otras tendrán mayor grosor, estas raíces van a contener conductos por lo que pueden ser todo un reto si están comprometidas endodonticamente.

Commonly the supernumerary root will have a distolingual location, which means far from the lingual side of the tooth, so its cervical third can keep two more roots distally, the shape that these roots will keep can be conical or rounded, some of the supernumerary roots may be thin, but others will be thicker. These roots will contain canals and can be a challenge if they are endodontically compromised.

En esta anomalía de forma en nuestros dientes es importante un buen diagnóstico con todas las radiografías pertinentes, ya que al momento de la endodoncia pueden surgir ciertas complicaciones como la mala o deficiencia obturación de los conductos radiculares, puede perderse y no ser encontrado, las radiografías periapicales son aquellas que nos darán un mejor diagnóstico ya que vamos a poder observar toda la anatomía que tengan las raíces.

En cuanto la exploración del examen intraoral se debe, inspeccionar la corona de nuestros dientes
y también evaluar la porción cervical del mismo, esto lo haremos con ayuda de la sonda periodontal nos daremos cuenta con cuantas raíces supernumeraria estan presente en el molar o premolar. Cabe destacar que también es importante el tamaño que tengan las cúspides ya que debido al aumento que tengan también podremos determinar aproximadamente cuantas raíces se tienen.

"Por último en cuanto el manejo odontológico la historia clínica será imprescindible, por medio de una exhaustiva amnesis, inspección y palpación del examen intraoral, vamos a recurrir al tratamiento más pertinente y favorable para el paciente. Si el paciente presenta alguna exposición pulpar u caries se debe recurrir al tratamiento de conducto o en última instancia si esta anomalía produce gran dolor debemos recurrir a la exodoncia."
