Since the discovery of Omicron in early November, restrictions have been on a constant changes. This has also led to complications mostly to Travels.

What is the Omicron variant?

The omicron is a covid 19 variant which has been branded by the World Health Organization to be a variant of concern based on the evidence that is has several mutations which may have an impact on its behaves. There are substantial uncertainty regarding Omicron and a lot of research are underway to evaluate its transmisibility, severity and reinfection risk.

From the Desk of Pfizer and BioNTech source

  • A Preliminary laboratory studies demonstration showed that three doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine neutralize the Omicron variant (B.1.1.529 lineage) while two doses significantly reduced neutralization titers

  • from data indication, a third dose of BNT162b2 increases the neutralizing antibody titers by 25-fold compared to two doses against the Omicron variant; titers after the booster dose compares to titers observed after two doses against the wild-type virus which are associated with high levels of protection

  • As 80% of epitopes in the spike protein recognized by CD8+ T cells are not affected by the mutations in the Omicron variant, two doses may still induce protection against severe disease

"The companies continue to advance the development of a variant-specific vaccine for Omicron and expect to have it available by March in the event that an adaption is needed to further increase the level and duration of protection – with no change expected to the companies’ four billion dose capacity for 2022" source

Omicron Implication to Africans

since the emergence of omicron which was first discovered in south Africa in November, the variant has surged higher to other Africa countries. The major concern is the vaccination rate of Africans. A report by the World Health Organization shows that Africa has so far received more than 372 million COVID-19 vaccine doses and administered 248 million. This represents only 3% of the 8.2 billion doses given globally. This implies that only 7.8% of Africa’s population is fully vaccinated with 92.2% left to the mercy of covid.

Majority of the countries are yet to administer most of their vaccine supplies. A WHO statistical report shows that about 27 countries have used 80% of doses received, 23 countries lies between 50 and 79% while 2 countries have used less than 50% of doses received.

“Only six of Africa’s 54 countries have reached the global target of vaccinating 40% of their population leaving millions of people in this region without protection against COVID-19" source.

Another implication of this virus towards the Africa countries is the travel ban majorly focused on them. The United Kingdom as of last week added Nigeria and 10 other Africa countries to their red list, a decision which many has frowned about including the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. This has also not been taking lightly by many government with the Nigerian government threatening to review the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) with the United Kingdom if it continues to put the country on red list.

Other countries such US, Canada, Germany, France, Japan, Israel, India, Australia, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Italy, Malta, Pakistan, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Oman have also imposed similar travel restrictions.

Conclusion

Just as the previous waves of covid was reduced to it's minimum, it's a great thing to to hope that the omicron will follow suit with minimal casualties

That's it? You just copy/paste someone else's original content word for word?

To the best of my knowledge, I referenced every author. (provided links) used in the writeup. Maybe you thought you saw a copied line which was duly referenced doesn't mean you should condemn the entire write and it's intent

I didn't say anything about you not sourcing someone else's material I pointed out that's all you did.

Remember those are medical findings. Fact that I'm a writer doesn't mean I'm a doctor. So you don't expect much different while presenting medical findings else you give it another meaning
