Greetings, loving Hivepets community. This post made with lots of cat love is to introduce you to Pastrami, our cat. Here I am going to tell you how she came into our lives.

Siempre he sido amante de los gatos y, por lo mismo, desde que era niña siempre hubo gatos en mi casa. Pero los últimos gatos se fueron de casa bastante jóvenes y no tuvimos más gatos por un tiempo. Hasta que nuestro hijo menor empezó a decirnos que quería un gato.
Nunca he comprado un gato ni ningún otro compañero animal. En casa consideramos que adoptar es la mejor opción. Sin embargo, como tenemos una perrita, fiel compañera y leal defensora de su manada (o sea, nosotros), no es tan fácil conseguir un gato que sea de su agrado. Hubo varios intentos de gatos que llegaban buscando refugio, peeero «Negra» siempre los ahuyentaba, por lo que ningún gato se quedaba. La cuestión entonces era que debíamos buscar un minino cachorrito, recién destetado para que fuera más fácil la adaptación con nuestra perra.
I have always been a cat lover and, for the same reason, since I was a child there have always been cats in my house. But the last cats left home quite young and we didn't have any more cats for a while. Until our youngest son started telling us he wanted a cat.
I have never bought a cat or any other animal companion. At home we consider adopting to be the best option. However, since we have a female dog, faithful companion and loyal defender of her pack (that's us), it's not so easy to get a cat that is to her liking. There were several attempts of cats that came looking for shelter, but "Negra" always chased them away, so no cat stayed. The question then was that we had to look for a kitten, recently weaned, so that it would be easier to adapt with our dog.

Luego de mucho tiempo buscando un compañero felino para nuestra familia, finalmente apareció, de la manera más inusual y mágica posible. Mi esposo (@tupamalo), se encontraba en una zona de Cumaná llamada Caigüire que está a 6 o 7 horas por carretera de nuestro hogar. Precisamente unas horas antes de que retomara carretera de regreso a casa, apareció una pequeña gatita, muy flaca, sucia y hambrienta.
Mi esposo le dio de comer unos pedazos de pastrami que era lo único que tenía a mano para alimentarla. Le dio mucho pastrami, ya que la nevera estaba dañada y en el camino podía descomponerse. Se lo comió todo todito y por supuesto se quedó y se acomodó a dormir. Mi esposo no lo pensó dos veces, ese era el gato que tanto estábamos esperando (él no sabía el sexo en ese momento) buscó una cajita, un paño para que se sintiera cómoda, la montó en la camioneta y la trajo a casa.
After a long time searching for a feline companion for our family, he finally appeared, in the most unusual and magical way possible. My husband (@tupamalo), was in an area of Cumaná called Caigüire which is a 6 or 7 hour drive from our home. Just a few hours before he was about to take the road back home, a small kitten appeared, very skinny, dirty and hungry.
My husband fed her some pieces of pastrami, which was the only thing he had on hand to feed her. He gave her a lot of pastrami, as the fridge was damaged and on the way it could spoil. She ate it all and of course stayed and settled down to sleep. My husband didn't think twice, that was the cat we were waiting for (he didn't know the sex at the time), he found a box, a cloth to make her comfortable, put her in the van and brought her home.

Recuerdo que me llamó emocionado y me dijo “Amor, les llevo un regalito a ti y a los niños, pero no les digas nada, quiero que sea una sorpresa”. Yo pensaba que era algún dulce o chocolate para endulzarnos la vida. Pero no, era algo más dulce aún.
Cuando llegó, la curiosidad me estaba matando. Salí a recibirlo sin decirle a los niños que su papá había llegado. Lo primero que hizo fue bajar una caja que me entregó diciéndome “Aquí está la sorpresa”. Al abrir la caja y verla, me conmovió, fue amor a primera vista. Esa cosita blanca, de ojos azules y orejitas oscuras me cautivó.
Curiosa, pero amistosa, se acercó a mí y se sintió tan bien tenerla entre mis brazos y que ella se sintiera confiada y protegida. Hicimos una conexión que cada día crece más y más. Pastrami es lo que faltaba para completar el círculo de amor en nuestra familia.
I remember he called me excitedly and said "Honey, I'm bringing a little present for you and the kids, but don't tell them anything, I want it to be a surprise". I thought it was some candy or chocolate to sweeten our lives. But no, it was something even sweeter.
When it arrived, curiosity was killing me. I went out to greet him without telling the kids that their dad had arrived. The first thing he did was to bring down a box which he handed to me saying "Here's the surprise". When I opened the box and saw it, I was touched, it was love at first sight. That little white thing with blue eyes and dark ears captivated me.
Curious, but friendly, she came to me and it felt so good to hold her in my arms and for her to feel confident and protected. We made a connection that grows more and more each day. Pastrami is what was missing to complete the circle of love in our family.
From the day he arrived, our bond began.
La llamamos Pastrami porque eso fue lo primero que comió cuando llegó a nosotros, y vaya que comió, su barriga se veía a reventar. Ella es toda una princesa gatuna, es soberana de nuestra casa, por lo que fue nombrada con el honorable título “Pastrami Primera de Caigüire”.
Al poco tiempo me enteré de que ella es de una raza llamada Tonkines, que son gatos resultado del cruce entre Siamés y Burmés (ya les hablaré de esta raza en otro post). Pastrami, como todo gato, tiene una personalidad única, es juguetona, muy inteligente y comunicativa, aunque es poco mimosa reclama atención y cariños con cierta frecuencia. Hasta ahora se ha sentido a gusto con nosotros y eso nos hace muy feliz.
De su personalidad y sus ocurrencias les hablaré luego, en otras publicaciones, para que la conozcan mejor y descubran lo encantadora que es. Por los momentos los dejo con estas fotos, que muestran cómo ha crecido en estos seis meses. Espero disfruten su peculiar belleza tanto como nosotros.
We call her Pastrami because that was the first thing she ate when she came to us, and boy did she eat, her belly was bursting. She is a real cat princess, she is the ruler of our house, so she was named with the honorable title "Pastrami The First of Caigüire".
Soon after I found out that she is from a breed called Tonkines, which are cats resulting from a cross between Siamese and Burmese (I will tell you about this breed in another post). Pastrami, like all cats, has a unique personality, she is playful, very intelligent and communicative, although she is not very cuddly, she demands attention and affection frequently. So far she has felt at ease with us and that makes us very happy.
I will tell you about her personality and her witticisms later, in other posts, so you can get to know her better and discover how charming she is. For now I leave you with these photos, which show how she has grown in these six months. I hope you enjoy her peculiar beauty as much as we do.
