More parasite-infested dogs, more Bravecto to the rescue

in Hive Pets3 years ago

While we have been packed to the gills at our headquarters and simply cannot take on any more lodgers, so to speak, this doesn't mean that we are not going to do our outreach programs for the suffering dogs in the community. Because of the intense heat and humidity, parasites thrive in this part of Thailand and you don't have to go very far to see a dog that has been ravaged by the elements here. Due to limited funding we work in very specific areas at the moment to try to help as many dogs as we can... but we still help as many as we can.

Not to take away from the other street dogs, but when I run into an exotic street dog such as this one I am a bit surprised. For me, I can't understand how anyone could ever throw out any dog, but when I see one like this I find it shocking. Ok, so it's not a purebreed, but Corgi looking dogs are all the rage right now and this poor baby is living outdoors and having her skin ravaged by fleas, ticks, and mange.

There are plenty of more examples in the same area where that little girl was

It is really easy to identify dogs infested with mange because their fur leaves them, and in extreme cases they end up with no fur at all or on most of their bodies such as this next doggo.

We treat this and a wide variety of internal parasites as well with one easy treatment: An edible medicine that tastes like a yummy treat that the dogs just gobble up.

In the past some pet owners out there have approached us about the dangers of using Bravecto and there are some stories about unintended side-effects of the medicine. These include in extreme cases muscle tremors, wobbliness and seizures but this occurrence is very very rare and I had to actually dig pretty deep to actually find a real person that had this happen to their own dog. It is extremely rare and normally is actually triggered by some other medical issue with the animal in question. While some people will attempt to tell us that repeated medicated baths are better (an actual complaint from someone on our website) they need to understand that this is not a viable alternative for us. We would love to have a place where we could take on all of these animals and provide for them but you know... money?

Bravecto is much better than the alternative for these guys on the streets because if we do not treat them, they will eventually succumb to the parasites and die a slow death. Also, the purported side-effects are things we have never seen in any of the cases that we have dealt with here in Krabi in over 5 years of using this product.

The only thing we have to be careful about is to make sure we don't accidentally double dose a dog. Even doing that would likely not have any sort of ill effect on the dog, but it is just a waste of medicine.

We will check up on these guys again in a few weeks and I am very much looking forward to seeing the progress than just one dose can do for them.
