Morrocoy babies
Esta es la segunda vez que publico en esta bonita comunidad de Hive Pets. Mi primer post fue sobre el Señor Morrocoy, y hoy les vengo a hablar de su prole, de los bebés morrocoy nacidos este año 2021.
This is my second time posting to this nice Hive Pets community. My first post was about Mr. Morrocoy, and today I come to talk about his offspring, the Morrocoy babies born this year 2021.
Quienes ya conocen mi blog, saben que tengo un espacio de tierra, mi solar, en donde además de sembrar plantas, también hacen vida muchas especies animales, desde insectos hasta aves, e incluso he encontrado gatos recién nacidos allí. Y así como estos animalitos pernoctan en ese espacio, también viven varios morrocoyes, los cuales son de diversos tamaños y edades.
Those who already know my blog, know that I have a space of land, my lot, where in addition to planting plants, many animal species also live, from insects to birds, and I have even found newborn cats there. And just as these little animals spend the night in that space, several morrocoyes also live, which are of different sizes and ages.
Todos los años, para entrada de las lluvias, es decir, entre mayo y julio, comienzan a aparecer pequeños morrocoyes que realmente son preciosos, pues es en ese momento que nacen. A veces caminan hasta el interior de la casa, otras veces los encuentro en el solar; y casualmente eso mismo pasó hoy, cuando encontré los dos primeros bebés morrocoy de esta temporada, se trata de una preciosidad de 4 centímetros de largo, muy pequeña tendrá 2 días de haber nacido, y otra más grandecita, como 6 centímetros, que ya tendrá una semana de haber emergido de su huevo. Recordemos que los morrocoyes o tortugas son ovíparos; las madres cavan en la tierra y allí entierran los huevos que al pasar el respectivo período de incubación, proceden a nacer. En las fotos siguientes pueden ver que ambas caben perfectamente en mi mano.
Every year, for the entry of the rains, that is, between May and July, small morrocoyes begin to appear that are really precious, because it is at that moment that they are born. Sometimes they walk inside the house, other times I meet them in the backyard; and coincidentally, the same thing happened today, when I found the first two Morrocoy babies of this season, it is a beauty of 4 centimeters long, a very small one will be 2 days old, and a larger one, like 6 centimeters, which will already have one week after emerging from its egg. Let us remember that the morrocoyes or turtles are oviparous; the mothers dig in the earth and there they bury the eggs that, after passing the respective incubation period, proceed to hatch. In the following photos you can see that both fit perfectly in my hand.
Las recogí y llevé para el interior de la casa, pues atrás corren el riesgo de ser cazadas por pájaros, de ser comida de roedores, (pueden haber ratones, ratas e incluso he visto un zorrillo rondando), o quizás un morrocoy de mayor edad quiera practicar canibalismo, nunca se sabe, pues ellos comen de todo, son omnívoros. Primero las coloqué en una maceta pero resultó siendo muy chica y el bebé más grande se salió, así que las mudé a una maceta más profunda, con algunos tréboles para que tuviesen algo de comida. Al final de la tarde los sacaré para que tomen agua, y luego les buscaré un sitio más amplio, para que estén más cómodas. Cuando crezcan más las soltaré en el solar, o les buscaré buenos hogares.
I picked them up and took them inside the house, because in the back they run the risk of being hunted by birds, of being food for rodents, (there may be mice, rats and I have even seen a skunk roaming around), or perhaps an older morrocoy want to practice cannibalism, you never know, because they eat everything, they are omnivores. I put them in a pot first but it turned out to be very small and the biggest baby came out, so I moved them to a deeper pot, with some clovers so they would have some food. At the end of the afternoon I will take them out to drink water, and then I will find a larger place for them, so that they are more comfortable. When they grow older I will release them in the backyard, or I will find them good homes.

Hola @actioncats, sí, son realmente preciosos, son muy tiernos. Pues, es difícil saberlo, con una tribu tan grande no sé si serán primos, hermanos o hijos del Sr. Morrocoy. Esta mañana encontré otro más, no tan pequeñito, sino como de 5 cms de longitud, pero con un carácter... se puso bravísimo cuando lo levanté del piso para resguardarlo, pateaba y movía la cabeza muy inquieto. Gracias por pasar por acá. Igual para tí, un abrazote.

¡Que precioso comentario @drrune! Espero que sí crezcan sanos y fuertes. Los tendré un año como en una guardería, es decir, en un porrón grande para darles de comer, de beber y cuidarles. It must be an exciting time finding newborns turtles. Like all baby animals, they show tenderness and delicacy that we must take care of, especially if there are animals that stalk them and put them in danger. This pair of baby turtles are really beautiful.

Pero que cositas tan bonitas, que preciosos son!... Es fácil criar morrocoy? en mi casa había 3 pero un tio se los llevo cuando los 3 eran jovencitos y hoy en día parecen una bestias. Creo que el alimento no es problema.

Hola Jhonny, ¡que bueno que viniste de visita! Sí, son hermosos, y sí es fácil criarlos, sólo que cuando están así, bebitos, la comida debe ser picada pequeñita, porque no tienen fuerza en las mandíbulas para morder y arrancar los pedazos, así que hay que ayudarles. Ellos comen DE TODO, especialmente cuando crecen, no sólo hojas y lechuga, también pueden comer granos, arepas, perrarina, carne, verduras, frutas, son omnívoros, por eso es que se pueden presentar problemas de canibalismo, ya sea que vean a un bebé morrocoy muy pequeño o que no tengan comida, aunque afortunadamente en mi solar hay abundancia de comida. Haré otro post para mostrarles los que tengo del año pasado, que ya les toca ir a su nueva casa, hay una señora que los quiere adoptar. Un abrazo.
