My rescue transport driving has been lighter the past few months which is a bit nice considering gas is now over $4 per gallon here in Arizona but on of my old friend transport coordinator from my days in New Mexico messaged me a few days ago to see if I could help get a Saint Bernard pup (2 years old and 100+ pounds!!) from a rescue in Oklahoma to his new mommy in Phoenix.
I don't know Meyer's history other than he was a bit underweight and had been treated for an infected front elbow. Needless to say it was an all too familiar routine and route for me - over to I-17 up to Flagstaff then across I-40 to Lupton on the AZ/NM state line (a long 5 to 6 hour drive)
He was a Biiiiigggg boy but all doggy slobber and kisses when I picked him up in Lupton.
Good thing my wife and Lulu didn't come alo g as usual as this big pup took up the entire back seat of my car.
Not a peep the whole way across Arizona and he was content to kick back and enjoy the ride and give me some love.
A quick stop along the way to stretch our legs and a potty break and we were off again.
Meyer was a quiet boy for the rest of the trip, settling down to nap for most of the rest of the drive into the evening and then night 🌃.
Too bad that our time together had to end but his new mommy was thrilled to get him and make him a new part to her family (she had lost her previous dog to old age just last year).
It didn't take long for Meyer to settle in with his new family but he was probably just happy to be in a home with a family - looks like someone is going to need a bigger bed 🤣🤣🤣

I thought that I would share some of my stories of my involvement with transporting/helping out rescue animals (mostly dogs). This is something that I have been doing for the past 7 years or so.
