I hope you’re doing well, or are trying to be well. I’m fairly alright. The other day, after quite a long break, Pravesh and I watched a fantastic film together. The name of the film was “Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1”. I genuinely didn’t realise how three hours had passed while watching it, it was so gripping that it managed to keep us completely glued to the screen. I even said to myself, “I wish I’d had the chance to watch this in cinemas.”
Before starting the film, I had prepared a few snacks for myself. To be honest, I didn’t really know what we were going to watch, because as you may remember, Pravesh is the film-picker between us, so I simply prepared things thinking, “we’re watching a film”. Normally I’m the one who gets bored within the first 10 minutes and immediately attacks the snacks, but in this film, half of my snacks lasted until the halfway point! I’m talking about roughly 90 minutes — I think that’s a personal record for me 😄
Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1, which begins with a short recap of the previous and first film of the series, Kantara, transported us smoothly into its own time and place. We suddenly found ourselves in the past, but instead of making us feel this through grainy visuals, it conveyed it through the story itself. Rather than feeling like a sequel, I could sense from the very first minutes that it delved into the past — the roots — of the first story. The film didn’t just show cultural and religious elements; it made us experience them almost like a ritual.
As someone foreign to all this, I can say, “so this is the reason behind that behaviour.” It was genuinely an educational film for me. The simple bits of knowledge I’d gathered about the religious and cultural foundations after the first film gained much more meaning with this one. It felt as though the clues left behind by the first film were completed in this chapter. And of course, the beauty of the action scenes tied everything together. Like the cherry on top of the cake.
Of course, there were unexpected moments as well. Kanakavathi’s surprising character shift particularly affected me. I wasn’t expecting such a sharp transformation, but it was precisely this that kept the film alive and engaging throughout.
Although I don’t want to make this blog too long, there’s more I want to talk about regarding the film. And among these, I think the most important is the music. Nearly all of us know that Bollywood and other regional film industries can be incredibly creative when it comes to music. Sometimes this happens without disrupting the flow of the film, and sometimes it appears out of nowhere like a completely unrelated music video. But in this film, the music was used so creatively and fluidly that towards the end, Pravesh and I thought we wouldn’t have felt the same emotion without these songs.
My favourite among them was Rebel. I don’t want to give too many spoilers, but the scenes with this song were incredible for me.
As you’ve probably realised by now, I really loved this film. Recently, films of this style have been catching my attention, and Kantara turned out to be a film I was absolutely not disappointed to have watched. I hope it gets a sequel without losing this magic, and there were hints in the final scenes suggesting one might be coming. I must say, that made me happy.
When the film finally ended, there was nothing left for me to say except that it was wonderful. While there were many things I could praise, I realised there were almost no things I disliked. The one thing I did dislike was that this film wasn’t released in Turkish cinemas… which is understandable. Unfortunately, films like this don’t make it here very often.
I think that’s all I have to say about Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1. You should definitely watch it. If you enjoy action and a bit of history, I’m sure it will be a film you’ll like. See you later. Take care of yourself in advance, stay in health and love, and please remember that;

Umarım iyisinizdir ya da iyi olmaya çalışıyorsunuzdur. Ben iyi sayılırım. Dün uzun bir aradan sonra Pravesh ile birlikte harika bir film izledik. Filmin ismi “Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1” idi. Filmi izlerken 3 saatin nasıl geçtiğini gerçekten anlamadım; o kadar sürükleyiciydi ki bizi tamamen ekrana kilitlemeyi başardı. Hatta “Keşke bu filmi sinemalarda izleme şansım olsaydı.” dedim kendi kendime.
Filmi izlemeye başlamadan önce yanıma birkaç atıştırmalık hazırlamıştım. Açıkçası ne izleyeceğimizi tam olarak bilmiyordum çünkü belki hatırlarsınız bizde film seçici Pravesh, bu yüzden de sadece “film izliyoruz” diye düşünerek hazırlık yaptım. Normalde bir filmin ilk 10 dakikasında sıkılıp atıştırmalıklara saldıran ben, bu filmde yarısına kadar atıştırmalıklarım kaldı! Yaklaşık 90 dakikadan bahsediyorum — sanırım bu benim için kişisel bir rekor 😄
Serinin bir önceki ve aynı zamanda ilk filmi olan Kantara’dan kısa bir özetle başlayan Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1, bizi oldukça pürüzsüz bir geçişle kendi zamanına ve mekânına taşıdı. Kendimizi bir anda geçmişte buluverdik fakat geçmiş olduğunu grain yerine hikâye ile hissettirmeyi başardı. Devam filmi olmaktan ziyade, ilk hikâyenin geçmişine, yani köklerine indiğini daha ilk dakikalardan fark edibildim. Film, kültürel ve dini ögeleri yalnızca göstermedi, onları adeta bir ritüel gibi yaşattı.
Yabancı biri olarak diyebilirim ki “işte bu davranışın sebebi buymuş.” Benim için gerçekten öğretici bir film oldu. İlk filmin ardından dini ve kültürel temellere dair edindiğim basit bilgiler, bu filmle birlikte daha fazla anlam kazandı. Sanki ilk filmin bıraktığı ipuçları, bu bölümde tamamlanmış gibiydi. Elbette içerisindeki aksiyon sahnelerinin güzelliği ise her şeyi tamamlayan bir element olmuştu. Pastanın üzerindeki kiraz gibi.
Tabii beklemediğim şeyler de yaşandı. Özellikle Kanakavathi’nin şaşırtıcı karakter değişimi beni oldukça etkiledi. Bu kadar keskin bir dönüşüm beklemiyordum ama tam da bu yüzden film, izleyiciyi sürekli diri tutmayı benim için başardı.
Aslında bu bloğu çok uzun tutmak istemesem de film hakkında bahsetmek istediğim daha fazla şey var. Bunların içinde ise bence en önemlisi müzik. Neredeyse hepimiz biliyoruz ki Bollywood ve bölgeye ait diğer film sektörleri müzik konusunda oldukça yaratıcı olabiliyorlar. Bu bazen filmin akışını bozmadan gerçekleşse de bazen filmden tamamen alâkasız bir şekilde bir anda karşımıza çıkan klip olabiliyor. Bu filmde ise müzik o kadar yaratıcı ve akıcı bir şekilde kullanılmış ki filmin sonuna doğru Pravesh ile birlikte bu şarkılar olmasaydı aynı duyguyu hissedemezdik diye düşündük.
Hatta içlerinde favorim Rebel oldu. Çok fazla spoiler vermek istemiyorum fakat bu şarkı varkenki sahneler inanılmazdı benim için.
Bu filmine kadar sevdiğimi fark etmişsinizdir. Son zamanlarda bu tarz filmler radarıma takılmış durumda ve izlediğime kesinlikle pişman olmadığım bir film oldu Kantara. Umarım bu güzelliğini bozmadan bir devam filmi de gelir ki son sahnelerde bunu onaylayacak ipuçları vardı. Bunun beni mutlu ettiğini söylemeliyim.
En sonunda film bittiğinde ise harika olduğunu söylemek dışında yapabileceğim bir şey yoktu. Övebileceğim çok şey varken hoşuma gitmeyen neredeyse yok denecek kadar şeyin olduğunu fark ettim. Hoşuma gitmeyen şey ise bu filmin Türkiye'de vizyona girmemesiydi... Bu da normal. Buralarda çok fazla olmuyor ne yazık ki.
Sanırım Kantara: A Legend Chapter-1 için söyleyebileceklerim bu kadar. Mutlaka izleyin. Eğer aksiyon ve biraz da tarih seviyorsanız eminim hoşunuza gidecek bir film olacak. Sonra görüşmek üzere. Kendinize dikkat edin, sağlık ve sevgiyle kalın ve lütfen unutmayın ki;
