En la fecha 12 de agosto coinciden, por su fallecimiento, dos grandes autores de tiempos muy distantes, que, en mi universo literario, ocupan lugares principales: el poeta inglés finisecular, William Blake, y el novelista alemán Thomas Mann (a quien me dedicaré luego). Sobre Blake publiqué antes por esta plataforma lo siguiente. Esta vez quise dedicarle un poema que juega con significados de su obra.
On August 12, two great authors of very distant times, who, in my literary universe, occupy major places, coincide in their deaths: the fin-de-siècle English poet, William Blake, and the German novelist Thomas Mann (to whom I will devote myself later). About Blake I published earlier on this platform the following. This time I wanted to dedicate a poem to him that plays with meanings from his work.
Las bodas entre cielo y tierra
han mutado en las de cielo e infierno,
como anunciaste en tu palabra,
vidente del Mal y el Bien que somos.
El cielo nos acompaña día a día
con su bóveda infinita y cierta,
las aguas superiores que se imaginan
en el mar ancho y vigoroso,
o mejor, en la mar vasta y fértil.
Y la tierra, también feraz e inmensa,
que nuestros ojos nunca podrán alcanzar,
ha devenido erial, yermo, destruido,
encarnación de un ínfero indeseable,
bajo el fuego de explosiones,
de masacres y dolores,
cubierto de las cenizas del hombre.
The marriage between heaven and earth
have mutated into those of heaven and hell,
as thou didst announce in thy word,
seer of the Evil and the Good that we are.
Heaven accompanies us day by day
with its infinite and certain vault,
the upper waters that are imagined
in the wide and vigorous sea,
or better, in the vast and fertile sea.
And the earth, also fecund and immense,
which our eyes can never reach,
has become wasteland, barren, destroyed,
incarnation of an undesirable inferno,
under the fire of explosions,
of massacres and pains,
covered with the ashes of man.
