[ESP-ENG] El alto costo de la vida no es impedimento para ser feliz - High cost of living is not an impediment to happiness

Buenas tardes queridos y apreciados lectores, hoy les escribiré acerca de lo importante que es conservar nuestra cultura y tradición a través del tiempo, gracias al concurso promocionado por @ocd en esta publicación.

Good afternoon dear and valued readers, today I will write to you about how important it is to preserve our culture and tradition through time, thanks to the contest promoted by @ocd in this publication.

How is the cost of living in your country or region?

En mi país Venezuela el alto costo de la vida sobrepasa todos y cada uno de los limites existentes, con decirles que mi sueldo como maestra es equivalente a 1.5 dólares, el cual no me da ni para comprar medio cartón de huevos; esto es algo muy triste, pero cierto. Todos los Venezolanos hoy en día vivimos una situación difícil, pero estoy segura que esto muy pronto pasara.

Es triste lo que estamos viviendo en mi país Venezuela, ya que debido a la crisis económica que atravesamos actualmente, muchas familias se han tenido que ir fuera del país y se han visto en la necesidad de vender sus casas y electrodomésticos para así costear los pasajes hacia otro país. Además, cabe recalcar que los servicios públicos también han tenido un incremento muy alto, con decirles que el costo del Internet sobrepasa los 8 dólares y lo que ganamos es sólo 1.5 dólares; esto es algo increíble, pero cierto; como es posible que un servicio público sea más alto que un sueldo de un trabajador.

In my country Venezuela the high cost of living exceeds each and every one of the existing limits, to tell you that my salary as a teacher is equivalent to 1.5 dollars, which does not even give me enough to buy half a carton of eggs; this is something very sad, but true. All Venezuelans today live in a difficult situation, but I am sure that this will soon pass.

It is sad what we are living in my country Venezuela, because due to the economic crisis we are currently going through, many families have had to leave the country and have been forced to sell their homes and appliances in order to pay for the tickets to another country. In addition, it should be noted that public services have also had a very high increase, to tell you that the cost of Internet exceeds 8 dollars and what we earn is only 1.5 dollars; this is something incredible, but true; how is it possible that a public service is higher than a worker's salary.

Pero para mi, está crisis económica no ha sido un impedimento para sacar a mi familia adelante, ya que he creado una serie de alternativas tales como: Vender helados, lazos, cintillos de niñas y otras cosas, las cuales me han generado una fuente de ingresos, para así poder cubrir las necesidades básicas de mi familia, como la comida y medicinas.

Hoy en día les hablo a mis hijos acerca de lo importante que es ahorrar, los educo desde mi hogar, ya que la primera escuela es el hogar, nuestros hijos son el reflejo de lo que hacemos como personas. Por tal motivo, debemos de inculcarle a nuestros hijos valores como el amor, respeto, la solidaridad, la responsabilidad y la constancia, los cuales harán de ellos seres únicos y maravillosos, capaces de afrontar cualquier adversidad que se le presente a lo largo de su vida. También, les digo que hay costumbres y tradiciones que nunca se pueden olvidar, entre estas costumbres puedo resaltar la semana santa, que para mi es la más importante del año.

En mi país Venezuela, la semana santa es considerada por todos nosotros como la celebración más grande del año, ya que aquí revivimos la pasión, muerte y resurrección de Cristo. No podemos olvidar que está fecha tiene un sentido mítico y religioso, el cual debemos de preservar a lo largo de nuestras vidas.

But for me, this economic crisis has not been an impediment to get my family ahead, since I have created a series of alternatives such as: Selling ice cream, ribbons, girls' ribbons and other things, which have generated a source of income, in order to cover the basic needs of my family, such as food and medicine.

Today I talk to my children about the importance of saving, I educate them from my home, since the first school is the home, our children are the reflection of what we do as people. For this reason, we must instill in our children values such as love, respect, solidarity, responsibility and perseverance, which will make them unique and wonderful beings, capable of facing any adversity that may arise throughout their lives. I also tell them that there are customs and traditions that can never be forgotten, among these customs I can highlight the Holy Week, which for me is the most important of the year.

In my country Venezuela, Holy Week is considered by all of us as the biggest celebration of the year, because here we relive the passion, death and resurrection of Christ. We cannot forget that this date has a mythical and religious meaning, which we must preserve throughout our lives.

Está celebración a través de los años a perdurado, muy a pesar de la grave crisis económica que vivimos todos los venezolanos se mantiene vigente y esperamos con ansias la llegada de está fecha tan importante, ya que podemos compartir en familia dulces de lechosa, mango, buñuelos y degustar también de un platillo, el cual llamamos cuajado o tortilla.

Para preparar este exquisito platillo necesitamos los siguientes ingredientes: Pescado, huevos, plátanos, papa, cebolla, cilantro, cebollín, ajo, ají dulce, sal, curry, cubito, entre otros. Luego de tener todos estos ingredientes procedemos a elaborar el guiso del pescado, freímos los plátanos y las papas, por ultimo, batimos los huevos, preparamos una bandeja, la cual ira directo al horno. Esto quedara igual que una torta de cumpleaños , or eso la llamamos tortilla.

This celebration has lasted through the years, and in spite of the serious economic crisis that all Venezuelans are going through, it remains in force and we look forward to the arrival of this important date, since we can share with the family milky sweets, mango, fritters and also enjoy a dish, which we call "cuajado" or tortilla.

To prepare this exquisite dish we need the following ingredients: Fish, eggs, plantains, potato, onion, cilantro, scallion, garlic, sweet bell pepper, salt, curry, cube, among others. After having all these ingredients we proceed to prepare the fish stew, fry the plantains and potatoes, finally, beat the eggs, prepare a tray, which will go directly to the oven. This will look like a birthday cake, that's why we call it tortilla.

Cabe destacar que en tiempos pasados para está fecha íbamos a playas, ríos e iglesias, pero en está ocasión debido al Covid-19 no podemos visitar estos sitios, ya que debemos de cuidar nuestra salud y así evitar contagiarnos. Pero lo que si podemos hacer son los dulces y la tortilla para compartir con nuestros familiares y amigos más cercanos.

Para finalizar, puedo decirles que para mi está cultura y tradición familiar debe prevalecer a través del tiempo y transmitirse de generación en generación para que está no desaparezca, ya que es muy importante la unión familiar. El compartir con nuestros seres queridos no tiene precio a pesar de las dificultades que estamos atravesando todos y cada uno de los Venezolanos debido a está grave crisis debemos de estar siempre unidos y querernos los unos a los otros como hermanos, confiando en que esto pasara pronto, la esperanza es lo último que se pierde en la vida, mientras hay vida hay esperanza y yo confió que algo muy bueno ha de llegar para todos nosotros, ya que somos personas luchadoras y trabajadoras, capaces de salir adelante a pesar de todos los obstáculos que se nos presenten en el transcurrir de este camino que se llama vida. No ha sido fácil, pero tampoco es imposible.

It is worth mentioning that in the past we used to go to beaches, rivers and churches for this date, but this time due to Covid-19 we cannot visit these places, since we must take care of our health and avoid getting infected. But what we can do are the sweets and tortillas to share with our family and closest friends.

Finally, I can tell you that for me this culture and family tradition must prevail through time and be transmitted from generation to generation so that it does not disappear, since family unity is very important. Sharing with our loved ones is priceless despite the difficulties that each and every one of us Venezuelans are going through due to this serious crisis, we must always be united and love each other as brothers, trusting that this will pass soon, hope is the last thing to be lost in life, while there is life there is hope and I trust that something very good will come for all of us, since we are hardworking and fighting people, capable of getting ahead despite all the obstacles that we face in the course of this road called life. It has not been easy, but it is not impossible either.
