Let's Experiment!
Hello everyone!
We love doing experiments. Last time, Little Miss did the Baking Soda and Vinegar Experiment while all of us also discovered about Static Electricity too.
Today, we will show you a video of us trying out the travelling water experiment. We will try if water can really travel through the tissues, from one cup to the empty cup.
What you will need:
- 5 empty cups
- water
- food coloring
- tissue paper
What it does:
The experiment shows a process called "capillary action". The water travels at the gaps between the fiber strands of the tissues. Did you know that this is also how water goes up from the roots of the plants to the different branches, stems, and leaves?
Patience!
Yes, we learned how to wait. The water did not take long before it goes up to the tissues, but it took long before most of it got transferred to the empty cups!
At one point, mommy added more water to the cups to make the transfer faster. When we woke up the following morning, the water in all the cups were at the same level already.
After a few minutes... the tissue started to get wet. Water was already starting their "travel".
It's been two hours... The water started dripping to the empty cups.
8 Hours Later, more water has already transferred to the empty cups!
Look! The water in each cup were the same level when we woke up in the morning. They did not stop travelling even when we were sleeping.
That's all for our experiment for today. We are looking for more kiddie experiments, and we hope to share them with you soon.

That's a pretty cool looking experiment! It's a shame it's so slow, but still exciting to see.
Thank you. It was nice to see the colorful water. We were guessing what the green and red would mix into. It's colored like cola. :D
Haha! I'm guessing it wouldn't taste like cola!
Oh fun! Didn't think to do this one, we did one with some flowers we picked up from outside (after they'd fallen off the bushes because I don't like picking flowers) and putting the stem in a jar with food colouring and watching the flower change colour as the water was drawn up the stem. This one looks like fun, might have to try it with youngest if I remember to collect enough containers :)
Right! We did the same with celery sticks before too. These experiments are so fun!
