Recientemente ha bajado el ritmo de las actividades escolares, aunque en mi país hemos trabajado todo el año escolar con la modalidad de escuela en casa, acaba de iniciar el periodo vacacional, por lo que en casa nos hemos relajado un poco. Y entre las actividades recreativas que más me gustan figura ver películas, me encanta ver películas, mi esposa dice que las analizo demasiado jaja y creo que a mi hijo le estoy heredando esa afición. Recientemente hemos visto juntos el “El libro de la vida”, y creo que además de ser entretenida tiene grandes componentes lúdicos que favorecen la educación de valores.

And among the recreational activities that I like the most is watching movies, I love watching movies, my wife says that I analyze them too much haha and I think I am inheriting that hobby to my son. Recently we have seen together "The book of life", and I think that besides being entertaining it has great playful components that favor the education of values.

Ya la había visto y me pareció genial, es una película con un estilo de animación interesante y con escenas muy coloridas. Algo que sabía que le gustaría a mi hijo, espero no hacer mucho spam por si aún no la han visto, aunque no es una película de estreno. Esta gira en torno a Manolo, un joven torero cuya verdadera pasión es la música, y sus amigos María y Joaquín; y el film recrea la vida imaginaria del mundo de los muertos y la vida real en un pueblo ficticio ubicado en México.
I had already seen it and thought it was great, it's a movie with an interesting animation style and very colorful scenes. Something I knew my son would like, I hope I don't spam too much in case you haven't seen it yet, even though it's not a first run movie. This one revolves around Manolo, a young bullfighter whose true passion is music, and his friends Maria and Joaquin; and the film recreates the imaginary life of the world of the dead and the real life in a fictional town located in Mexico.
Estos son algunos de los aspectos que me gustaría destacar que fortalecen la formación para la vida que buscamos en nuestros hijos.
These are some of the aspects that I would like to highlight that strengthen the formation for life that we seek in our children.
Perder el miedo a ser tú mismo: en la película veremos que Manolo es influenciado por su padre para ser torero, como lo han sido todos los hombres de la familia, pero él quiere ser músico, y debe decidir si seguir su pasión y deshonrar a la familia como tanto le recalcan. Notaremos que los demás creen que su miedo es matar un toro, pero su verdadero miedo como lo revela el narrador es precisamente dejar de ser el mismo. Algo que les deja la lección a los niños de que la opinión de los demás no debe determinar su comportamiento.

Losing the fear of being yourself: in the film we will see that Manolo is influenced by his father to be a bullfighter, as all the men in the family have been, but he wants to be a musician, and must decide whether to follow his passion and dishonor the family as he is so strongly emphasized. We will notice that the others believe that his fear is to kill a bull, but his real fear, as the narrator reveals, is precisely to stop being himself. Something that teaches the children the lesson that the opinion of others should not determine their behavior.
Respeto a los animales: como veremos, Manolo no teme enfrentar a un animal salvaje, incluso hace alarde de sus habilidades como torero, pero se gana el repudio de todos, incluso el de su padre, cuando expresa en medio de la multitud que colma la plaza de toros que “matar al toro está mal”. Algo que aplaudo porque no me gustan las corridas de toros ni otros deportes donde es maltratado un animal, y trato de enseñarle eso a mi hijo, que maltratar a un animal está mal.
Respect for animals: as we will see, Manolo is not afraid to face a wild animal, he even shows off his skills as a bullfighter, but he earns the repudiation of everyone, including his father, when he expresses in the middle of the crowd that fills the bullring that "killing the bull is wrong". Something I applaud because I don't like bullfights or other sports where an animal is mistreated, and I try to teach my son that, that mistreating an animal is wrong.
La masculinidad no es falta de sensibilidad: culturalmente se nos ha enseñado a los hombres a no expresar nuestros sentimientos, por lo general es algo asociado con las mujeres, o que conlleva el riesgo de mostrar debilidad. Por eso el padre de Manolo le recalca que para ser un hombre debe matar al toro, y cuando no puede hacerlo le señala que no lo empeore disculpándose, pero este personaje es un hombre de pies a cabeza, pero un hombre sensible y empático que se expresa a través de la música, incluso mi escena favorita es precisamente cuando le pide perdón al toro con una canción.
Masculinity is not a lack of sensitivity: culturally we men have been taught not to express our feelings, usually something associated with women, or that carries the risk of showing weakness. That is why Manolo's father stresses to him that to be a man he must kill the bull, and when he cannot do it he points out to him not to make it worse by apologizing, but this character is a man from head to toe, but a sensitive and empathetic man who expresses himself through music, even my favorite scene is precisely when he apologizes to the bull with a song.
Empoderamiento de las mujeres: una de las protagonistas es María, el amor de Manolo, pero no es precisamente una princesa esperando a su príncipe; es fuerte, independiente, inteligente y también sabe kun fu jaja, a pesar de estar en un contexto donde hay barreras de género, por lo que se ofende con el comentario de que las mujeres están para servir a los hombres y no duda en unirse a la lucha contra el villano y propinarle unos cuantos golpes.
Empowerment of women: one of the main characters is Maria, Manolo's love, but she is not exactly a princess waiting for her prince; she is strong, independent, intelligent and also knows kun fu haha, despite being in a context where there are gender barriers, so she is offended by the comment that women are there to serve men and does not hesitate to join the fight against the villain and give him a few blows.

Tratar la muerte como el paso a un mundo más bonito: esto es algo que también vemos retratado en la película Coco, y me encanta de ambas películas que nos da la oportunidad de hablar abiertamente de la muerte, y del culto que le dan otras culturas. Me agrada que a los niños se les pueda enseñar que no es algo desagradable, que es parte de la vida, y que un ser querido sigue vivo mientras lo sigan recordando.
Treating death as the passage to a more beautiful world: this is something we also see portrayed in the movie Coco, and I love that both films give us the opportunity to talk openly about death, and the cult that other cultures give it. I like that children can be taught that it is not something unpleasant, that it is part of life, and that a loved one is still alive as long as they remember him or her.
Respeto por los mayores: aunque la película se centra en la cultura mexicana diría que es un común de los latinos el peso que tiene la familia, en especial los miembros mayores, y se refleja que para Manolo es muy importante lo que dicen sus padres, abuelos e incluso sus antepasados. Algo muy importante que aprendan los niños ya que vemos que están creciendo en una sociedad que muchas veces relega a las personas mayores.
Respect for the elders: although the film focuses on Mexican culture, I would say that it is common for Latinos the weight of the family, especially the older members, and it is reflected that for Manolo it is very important what his parents, grandparents and even his ancestors say. Something very important for children to learn since we see that they are growing up in a society that often relegates older people.
La animación, la colorida ambientación, además de la música original y los temas versionados, hacen de esta película una gran obra para disfrutar en familia, resaltando estos temas, y algunos otros, que buscamos para inculcarles valores.
The animation, the colorful setting, as well as the original music and the cover songs, make this film a great work to enjoy with the family, highlighting these themes, and some others, that we seek to instill values in them.
