Hello everyone,
Fall has finally arrived! Warm, but cold in the same time it's how it was here the last couple of days. For me, this is perfect! I love Autumn so much! Leaves are just starting to change in color, the light of the sun starts also to fade and without even knowing, we'll be in November haha. That's how time flies!
I hope you are all good. I've read many posts in the community and even though sometimes I dont leave comments, I'm always watching, reading and learning from you!
We were pretty busy this week. We did so many activities and learning stuff on the Human Body theme!! I'll be posting all of it next week. Hopefully π.
Right now, I'm sharing with you some autumn learning activities I did with Caleb lately. Maybe you can get some ideas from us!ππ
Autumn Counting Wheel ππ
This was something I did in a rush. I found the worksheet online and I easily pressed the Print button. I put all the clips on the table, I cut out the number blings circles and that was all from me.
As I said in many of my posts, my son is a Math expert. I chose this activity not for counting practice, but for fine motor skills development. I noticed he's not that good with clips and stuff like this that needs grabing, squeezing. So why not using his love for numbers to try work on the things where he needs to grow at?
There are so many learning oportunities with just a simple counting wheel like this. Or you name it. But for example, other than practice counting, numbers learning and fine motor skills, you can use it to mention colors, the elements on the wheel (vocabulary), shapes. You just have to know what to ask.
What I always do when I work with my little one (any activity) is to speak in English. I repeat as much as I can, especially focusing on what we actually do. In this example, I would focus on the elemens of the counting wheel (pumpkin, apples, leaves, acorns etc. I say these words both in Romanian and English.

Fall Season Painting ππ
This is really the easiest. Painting is our go to activity, no matter the topic we're learning. I always found how to integrate painting in our schedule.
I download some coloring worksheets and set up the little table in the yard. Outside was really nice, 21 celsius or more. It was a beautiful autmun day.
I tried to keep an eye on these little hands because they tend to be very/to creative.
And sometimes I SO struggle with it because...it's a bit hard. Maybe I'm wrong, what do you think about this? (down below)
I want Caleb to be creative and I support it the best I can but sometimes I just need him to follow rules you know? ππ
For example, he wanted to paint a blue apple. That's great I said. I think it would look amazing. Blue is a beautiful color. But still, did you know apples to be blue? Let's try put our world into art and paint it exactly as it is this time. Next time we can try blue and purple. And he said ok...I just wanted him to follow rules which still,hmmm....now that I'm thinking, maybe art isnt the best area to work on it hahaha.
In the end, when we got to Leaves, he couldnt help himself to not color a blue leaf. If the apples aren't blue, let's make a blue leaf then. Well...I love his creativity! I always let him get creative pretty much in everything, it's my strong belief that creativity is a sign of intelligence and we need to embrace it. π

Autumn Playdough Fun π
My kid loves playdough and why not put it on the table? We have this book you see in the pictures, (well, one of the books) which is about seasons and after reading it (again) I thought to try this thing here, which kind of looks life play and fun. And that was exactly what we've been doing.
Other than giving my son some instructions and advices, he used playdough to make two leaves and one apple. He decided which colors to use on them.
He said he wanted a Golden Delicious apple, thats why he'll use yellow color. How sweet of him! We have a book called Apple and other fruits and he got from there the information about "Golden Delicious" apples. He said also the leaf is two colors (green and brown) because now they start to fall down and many leaves are multicolored. I wanted to use the brown color for an acorn but he didnt want to continue. He said is enough these three. I didnt insist of making others. He got tired or maybe bored..Idk. Still it was fun.
We worked again on our fine motor skills development, creativity and imagination. We used here many tools for playdoh.

Autumn Tree Leaf Glue ππ
This is something we did very quickly as well. And like always, I do all the set up ahead and, I prepare everything we need and it's something that brings me comfort. I mean, knowing what am I gonna do with the little one.
When I'm not organized and he asks for learning activities (because he comes to me and would say "mommy lets do some activities" , I'm lost. I can't always be prepared. And sometimes I get frustrated for not having time, mood or whatever it takes to plan ahead this things.
We usually go with the flow but now I kind of did a theme list which I'll try to follow in the upcoming weeks.
For this activity, you'll need a puncher or if you don't have one, just cut some leaves yourself. I'm sure you can do it. Give the child a glue and let him handle it.

That's right, art is not the best area to follow rules, because, in a way, creativity is restricted and we don't want that. It is also important to respect rest hours, they want to move from one activity to another in moments. Your post is very complete, they are diverse tasks to learn and entertain for a while. Yep, that was more of an example with the apple. Sometimes I just want him to represent the things we're creating to be real. The apple, the leaf, the tree etc.
I only tried to make him paint the way I wanted, with the specific colors. And I exposed to him why I want that. Still, he wanted his way.
I watched a movie this week and in it was this. "If you have to take in consideration some models, templates, rules, whatever its given to you, then its not art anymore." This sticked with me and I was thinking about it and this specific episod with Caleb. Here's the controversial thing about it. Let it color the way he wants or suggesting how to be done? In fond, its just coloring. I guess depends on many factors. My son is that type of being creative and do things the way he wants when it comes to coloring, painting.
Other than that, I agree on how important is rest time for kids(as it is for adults). We didnt do all these activities in one day.Kids can focus too long on this age.

Hi @missdeli, what a fun game you made with your little one, he has a great imagination, he is very determined he wanted to use the color blue and finally made it with his blue fall leaf, I imagine he was very happy with the result.

Yeah that was actually interesting to see.
At first he accepted to not color a blue apple and I thought he was ok with that but still, he couldnt help himself about what he has in mind so after all, after all my attempts in explaining him that we want to represent that leaf or apple like being natural, I failed. He got creative and couldnt go the eay I wanted. And thats super ok. I was happy that he was determined to put his idea on the paper.
I was kind of being sorry for restrict him in the first place.
