Rainbow Playdough Sensory Activity 🌈🌈🌈

in Home Edders β€’ 3 years ago

Hello Hello,

Toddlers love playdough! Thats' a fact! πŸ’“

Rainbow made of playdough and colored buttons were a hit! He loved this so much because he's crazy about playdough and rainbows. So you can imagine all the fun and excitement playing with them both at once! :x:x 🌈🌈

This is a creative-sensory activity that stimulates the imagination, creativity, dexterity and fine motor skills of the little ones.

Depending on the age of the child, the activity can be done entirely by them.

In our case, my toddler took the playdough out of the container, he tried 'heat' it with his little hands so that it would be soft. Then, he handle me the playdough by colors to form the rainbow arches. 🌈
In the end, he put the buttons on the playdough, making the association on colors. That was the moment when all the fun came in!

Do you know the benefits of playing with play dough?πŸ’“ Here are some:

  • It develops fine motor skills

  • It's calming for children

  • It encourages creativity

  • It enhances hand-eye coordination

  • It promotes playtime

While children are busy rolling, poking and squishing dough, they are building strength in the little muscles in their fingers and hands. These same muscles are used for later skills such as cutting and holding a pencil with a pincer grasp.

When playing with play dough, children are beginning to use symbolic thinking, or pretending the play dough is something else. This is an important skill for cognitive flexibility, and a way in which children express their ideas.

Beautiful buttony rainbow :D

We had playdough (both bought and made) and some Kinetic Sand knockoff for a little while (they had hours of fun with that one but it was messy x_x). Never did this particular activity unfortunately (the playdough was easy enough to fix but I never seem to have buttons even now that there's actually just one box that all the sewing items are in), looks like a fun one :)

Hey hey, thank you for commenting! you are so kind :)

I hear you. SOmetimes it happens to me too.
I do let him play with playdough (and kinetic sand) even if its messy BUT I'm always around cause I know how things can go :)) and very very fast.
When the nice weather comes again, we'll be making outdoor activities includind 'table activities' like painting, drawing, etc.; and playdough/kinetic sand will be one of them too. I will let him play freely with it, without me rolling my eyes when things get ugly. :D:D

I didnt try yet to make playdough at home but I'm studying some recipes right now. Maybe I'll have the time to try it. :D:D

If you have a water table those are fun too :) (better is a sandbox if you have one, and making landscapes that you then run some water into, and better again if you have some plant offcuts to make forests and little plastic animals to run through them)

If you can get sidewalk chalk and a decent sized flat area (paved driveway, pavement/sidewalk, fence, blank wall XD) that's another fun one for outdoors, and really easy to clean up (hose or next time it rains).

Hey! We have the Ikea table, Flisat, which is similar to water table, but a little bit smaller. And its wooden, not plastic. We do a lot of sensory activities and this table really helps. I also create different 'landscapes' and animal forests or trying to create something similar to their habitat.
Because you mentioned it, We do have paved driveway. It's already 'used'. He writes/draws there every single day, no matter what. Even some of our unfinished walls (around our property I mean) are written with chalk. Its all rainbows and numbers and letters ! :)))
Thank you for taking the time to get back to me! :)

the Rainbow is so cute!

Thank you! My 2 year old loves playing with playdough. :x

I played with plasticine, and have a few boxes of plasticine left unopened still.
Once we produced a very big city of plasticine - it happened at the All Inks of Childhood festival. This is so much fun! But now I prefer drawing.

So good to hear you enjoyed playing with it! I bet it was so fun!
My son loves drawing as well!
