During the global lockdown, things were no longer the same as it used to be. Nevertheless, we still managed to cope with the present situation.
When the Department of Education and the CHO agreed to open the school again though online learning and modular home learning approach, we had no choice but to follow the protocol.

Confused

At this point in time, the help of the parents/elders/guardians were greatly encouraged especially in the elementary levels. The problem was that not all can do it due to their hectic schedule as providers in the family or due to lack of education.

In short, they need our guidance but not totally spoon-feeding them.

When the grades for the first grading was released, granny me was happy and the rest of the family especially Antonia's mom in Cebu. She couldn't come home because she's waiting for her papers while working in a Beauty Lounge (they need a licensed nurse to initiate in the glutathione administration process. Mother and daughter contented themselves by calling each other or chat whenever time permits.

We are the living examples at home

It is true that kids follow what they see inside their homes. They get used to seeing me doing this and that. When am not sitting in front of my sewing machine, I would be on my laptop or if none of the above, you can find me in my garden!:)

My kids were already used in the self learning approach at St. luke's Christian School where the five of them finished their primary years though the public before had other learning educational approach, making it harder for them to adjust in the present situation.

Of course, granny is here to attend to despite the hectic schedule!

The Reward

It is rewarding when you see good grades! She has been a consistent honor student and still is despite the present situation.

Unschooling

When she's done with her learning modules, she simply glance at my needleworks while doing her digital drawings.

When I was working on my braided mat, she volunteered to finish it herself. She used her lampshade to have a better sight on where to insert 6-inch the needle. :)

Not only that, she also practiced on how to hold a crocheting hook.

Her aunt gave her a cute electric sewing machine on her birthday. At young age, she had made her own pouch and backpack. Well, she looked haggard in that photo because she just woke up and went aheadwith her sewing. I guess she had planned that night on what to do the following day. Lol! All we did was watched her silently with tenderness and pride in our hearts!

Her mom also sent us a little package with the DaVinci Painting by numbers and they're almost done.

That's mine. It's larger and more complicated and almost done too. Actually, it's a lot better to do your own drawings rather than following the numbers to the smallest spot.

The same goes with my older grandson. He too had a bunch of medals since his elementary years. He's now in Grade 8. Both of them are active in Academic competitions too!

The two used to play soccer and ballet dance as well. That was before she met an accident when she climbed on a chinning bar along with her cousins unguarded which broke her right arm. Now it has an alloy brace. It was a lesson learned for her. We were so heartbroken for her but we never showed our concerns but rather guided her to lead a normal life. The big scar is there and we are still waiting for the right moment for the steel to be removed when everything will be back to normal.

Recently, she woke up early to prepare a spaghetti pasta for her mom's 32nd's birthday with me giving instructions on which comes first. Indeed she was so happy that she had cooked something for her mom!

Thanking @homeedders for this awesome community, where we can share our first-hand experience for the betterment of our kid's future. It is a fact that we won't be there for them all the time. What we've instilled in their minds will be their anchor as well when they are ready to fly and build their own nests in the future to come.

Thank you for dropping by and have a nice day ahead!

Till then,

@Sarimanok

You're teaching them very good life lessons and skills that will serve them well for a lifetime.

Indeed, it will make things easier for them especially the girls. They can beautify their homes personally or they can even make money from their own talents.

Congrats po! Learning life skills is really very important. I'm sure she appreciates that. 😍

Thanks dear. She really appreciates what am doing and I like it. May mga bata na gusto lang maglaro kaya.

OO nga po. That's the problem when there's no parent/guardian to supervise them. Very grateful to grandmas like you who wholeheartedly step in to fill in parents' shoes. Same goes to my mom who took care of my eldest for 4 years when we were still unable to care for him here with us. We were able to work with ease because we know our child was well looked after.

You're right. It doesn't mean that our responsibility as parents end once the kids are married. It's a never ending obligation without compensation. And, guilty as accused, medyo spoiled pa nga ng mga Lola! Lol!

Totoo yan! Sabi nila, mas mahal ang apo kesa sa anak. :D

You are marvellous! I'd say #notbacktoschool, but hey, that's none of my business. And that's what I love about education in families. @tipu curate !invest_vote !ENGAGE 10

If I were to choose, mas gusto ko pa sa school mag aral kasi masyado comfortable sa home baka makatulog at walang papasok sa utak ko hehehe. Though I LOOOOOOVE working from home now! Awesome article that brings out a lot of people who can relate with. Keep it up!

Actually, it's the other way around. There was an overloading of modules that some resulted to writing till dawn. Just imagine, in the case of grade VI pupils, there are two subjects for the week with 4 modules per subject, each with 10-12 pages. Therefore, you need to finish two modules a day. Granting that you start with your learning module @8am, I don't think an average pupil will be able to complete the task until 11am, excluding the tasks in poster and slogan making. I guess these had been observed considering that the first approach were experimental, some were fused because some tasks were already redundant to the succeeding pages.

As to the modules, I have found out that there were various errors that needs to be checked for the next batch because it will cause confusion to the students. I have noticed multiple typos as well.

At isa pa, there's a big difference of the term 'nang' at 'ng' in Pilipino, right? Kainis! Pati samples ng figures in their Math subject had errors! There were errors in the printing process as well. Others did not complain or perhaps they were adamant to approach the teachers but it is my right to call their attention. I consider it as a constructive critism that they should also take into consideration.
