Guys, do you like cartoons? And your kids?

Of course, we all love them! Especially our children, right? But do you know cartoons are not just an entertainmanet but really a very powerful method of education and upbringing of your kid.

Personally I am very careful with cartoons. I always control what my boy watches and how much. Moreover, I try to select the best cartoons for him. I let him a right to choose but among those cartoons which have been already chosen by me;) Otherwise, he will be lost in Youtube trash fast...

The thing is once he watched cartoons which were proposed by Youtube, and it was something awful. Stupid cartoons about nothing with absolutely ugle and stupid characters whose deeds had no sence at all. And when I saw my boy tried to repeat something after them, I understood how careful we must be with cartoons. It was just a proof of my predictions.

Cartoons are a window to the world for our kids. They instill certain models of behavior, introduce them to the norms of morality and ethics, entertain during the period of rest from developmental activities and training. During watching the child is immersed in the events on the screen. He becomes part of the fictional world. The only way to separate reality from fiction in a child's mind is to watch cartoons with their parents.

And you know, it's a great idea!

It can unite you with your kid very much.

  1. He will see how important his own interests are for you.
  2. You will control what he is watching
  3. You will explain what is happening in the cartoon and why. Who is bad or good, what the moral of the fairytale is.
    Or you can ask the kid about it and let him develop his wn logics and speech under your control.

It works fine! Cartoons can be a great way of education and homeschooling.
Now there are a lot of educational cartoons which can tell your kids about world's and nature processes not worse than any other teacher.

  • it will be really amazing and interesting for them, and they will not think studying is boring;)

So what is the Harm of cartoons for children if they watch them without limitations?

What cartoons are not allowed for children to watch:

with elements of cruelty, when the plot is replete with aggression, fights and even murders of characters;
with the wrong interpretation of the concepts of good and evil. For example, when the negative character appears to be good and vice versa. And also plots where the main villain avoids responsibility for his actions;
with oversaturated visuals: loud sounds and frequently changing bright images overload the child's psyche.

If you do not control the number and quality of cartoons that a child watches, he may have:

Aggressive behavior.
After watching a cartoon, the kid may want to hit someone, break something - that is, actually repeat the actions of cartoon characters. The scenes of violence do not go unnoticed: they cause shock, unwanted emotional experiences.

Nervous tension.
Especially if you watch a dynamic cartoon in the evening. The child gets tired during the day, so before going to bed he needs some kind of quiet activity.

Closure.
Watching cartoons is a passive activity that does not require any effort. At the same time, our brain is designed in such a way that of the two types of activity, it chooses the one that is easier. Accordingly, a child who watches cartoons for too long and often will give preference to them, and not to communicate with friends or parents. As a result, he may have problems with socialization and building friendships.

Curvature of the picture of the world.
Fantasy plots of cartoons form a wrong idea of the world around children in children. And here the question arises - what will they believe in, what will they be guided by? Fiction is always brighter than reality, but is it worth living in fantasies? Such disorientation in a child can lead to unpredictable consequences ranging from behavioral disorders and ending with an incorrect assessment of oneself, one's capabilities and personality traits.

My boys always asks me to watch something together because he likes the process when we are involved in the same interesting process together. And a good cartoon can be great family rest or a nice change for a boring lesson.

Cartoons indeed are powerful medium of knowledge. As for me, when my son is watching something and I saw something bad in it I immediately say to him that it is bad then I urge him not to watch it again. Keeping our eyes all the time on what our children are watching is very challenging especially in this golden age of technological advancement, all we can do is to be always beside them and guide them.

No doubt we all enjoy cartoons, but you are right, not all of them are suitable for children. I particularly spend some time watching the cartoons my son watches, trying to steer away from the violent ones and selecting the ones that help children acquire useful information.

Hello, very interesting article especially because sometimes we neglect a little what our children watch on television, certainly the cartoons have an educational value and its influence is notorious since its appearance the tv is an entertainment device and well with many other features that is in every home and reaches almost everyone on the planet, especially now with mobile apps, cartoons have a classification according to the age and cognitive development of the viewer, there are even for adults where their visual and verbal content requires a high level of understanding of the world, when you say that not all are suitable is true because each cartoon is designed for a specific audience and if we are not careful our children will end up very confused or with attitudes that have nothing to do with their age or with what we as a family want to teach them. Thank you for sharing your experience

Excellent definition of the types of cartoons our children can watch and enjoy. Currently there are too many cartoons that are not suitable for them, so it is necessary that we are attentive and look for programs that contribute and favor their formation because if not we can make them learn things through television that are totally distorted to what are the values and our family formation.
