UNSCHOOLING MATHS GAME FOR MY SON (DIY)

in Home Edders2 years ago

Do you like Maths? And you kids?

My 7-year old boy doesn't like it. He is not lazy at all, he is fond of reading most of all, and he can read from morning till night.

It's great, but counting is important, at least because he must count money;)
But how can I make him count if he doesn't like it?
I just do NOT make him doing anything!
I can explain why it's important - because he can't count money to buy a new toy, for example;)

It works fine, but games work the best!
I just try to create games where counting is necessarym and thus while playing he does it without his ordinary hating of this process;)

Here are my 2 new Maths game.
They are about the same, but there are small differences.
It needs just 10-15 min to play them, and it's enougn for this age to count rather much, but not to be tired of the process.

The 1st one

We take a ribbon with numbers and 2 toys (my son likes to play with such small toys very much). They will be our runners;)

The goal of the game - to come till the end of the ribbon.
The first one gets the victory!🌟

For counting we use cards that we've made before for training Maths actions.
The principle is the following:

  • means a toy moves forward
  • means a toy moves back

So step by step they are moving to the end of the ribbon.
Very simle rules, but it's enough for training counting;)

The 2nd game:

It's almost the same but here we take a sheet of paper and draw a road there.

It will be car racing! Using the same cards and the same principle of the game.
And here we count dots to move forward or back.

Very easy too, but rather interesting for my boy, and he was palying both of them with great pleasure, and Maths wasn't such boring for him as usual;)

Sort:

The best way to make kids love maths is through games. They won't even notice they're learning, they're just having fun. I myself made lots of diy games for my little one too. You might also want to try downloading the free math worksheet from The Good and the Beautiful. It has really helped my daughter a lot.

thanks for advice! You're right, I wanna make education as a game, not boring duty.
what is The Good and the Beautiful?

Hi @taliakerch, games are great to get little ones interested in math, there is a mistaken belief that math is boring and tiresome. With games as simple and practical as the ones you present your little one learns math while having fun with their favorite toys, thanks for sharing.

Blessings!

yeah we need just to find such games;) or...create them!;)

Interesting proposal. Also, you made use of their toys by involving them in the activity to make it more appealing to your child.

Cheers

That's right, through games we make everything more digestible and children do not realize that they are learning. Doing it this way gives excellent results, otherwise, we make the mistake of forcing them and we only make them feel adversity for the process and see it as a torture. Greetings, friend.

Congratulations excellent games, you really have to motivate and awaken the interest of children to mathematics not everyone likes numbers ha ha ha ha but these games are very interesting.
