Nobody Is Going To Attack Hive or Take It Down

in #hive3 years ago

I have seen a little hysteria here on Hive the last few days, talking of what happens if Hive becomes the next Parler and is taken down by being deplatformed by third-party services such as AWS and the numerous hosting providers that witnesses use to run the site.

While the threat of Hive being "cancelled" in the same way as possible, it would take tremendous time and energy for this to happen. Each and every node would have to be terminated via its host for this to happen. This concern fails to consider many of the witness nodes are not even hosted in the US, I know of a few hosting over in Europe.

Furthermore, I think we mostly agree that we never want Hive being associated with domestic terrorists who call themselves patriots. We most certainly do not want this place to be known as a platform where you can organise violent acts such as what we witnessed with the Capitol incident.

I am all for free speech, but not if it comes at the cost of someone losing their lives over it. Hive clearly has a large population of anti-vaxxers who feel free to spread their alternative news about the real intention behind vaccines and as a free speech proponent, I am okay with that. Same with some of the QAnon crazies we have here as well. But domestic terrorism? I'll never support Hive if it allows that to occur and go unchecked.

I can't see a reason for Hive to be cancelled. Focusing on the decentralisation of witnesses is just good for business and should happen regardless. But the intention of decentralising should never be driven out of fear that MAGA patriots can't organise violent sieges on federal buildings.

Yes, I really like this post and how you point the difference between free speech and organizing to hurt people. Well said.
