Witness Announcement

I'm an innovator

The financial systems of today are in ruin. They have long ruled our societies in various forms. Maybe it's currency systems in general. Our immediate future relies on our quick thinking and innovation. Some from virologists and some from economists. We've been building on distributed systems for a while now. The first reason was censorship and counter-party trust. Everything from withheld apps to accurate reports of novel diseases erodes at our human rights. We have governments that are financially insolvent driving growth that can't be sustained against a planet that is clearly in revolt. There are more than 180 trillion dollars of debt liabilities to entice a global economy of 80 trillion dollars. These black sheep events allow sovereigns to print more money, purchase more deflated assets, and drive the wealth gap higher and higher.

No more. Technology has been accelerating at an exponential pace. Nearly everybody in the world now has a cell phone and access to technologies even Ronald Reagan couldn't buy or acquire. Less than three percent of people work in agriculture now which means most of us should be able to sit in our houses and weather any storm. But when we can safely interact again physically... how are we going to help pick each other up from this mess?

I firmly believe that freedom of speech is the only real right. It's what allows us to assert our will and form mutually beneficial arrangements with others. Healthcare is not a right, nothing that can be provided is. However, it is something that can be provided for all and that is a goal of society. I want to be part of the society that can feed it's people with ease. Provide for every human at least some form of housing. Advances in technologies are going to make growing cruelty free meats just as expensive as growing a new kidney pound for pound. We will have robot surgeons doing kidney transplants with near perfect success ratios. Technology so abundant it's use effectively becomes free.

We will be able to put our best minds on research instead of repetitive tasks like surgeries. Our supply chains will be autonomous... everything from farming to mining to fishing will be as automated as the transportation. The things we value most will be cooking, crafting, and enhancing. We have to build a society that encourages these things for all as many jobs just won’t be coming back.

So how are we going to do that?

We don't focus on what was, we focus on what is possible. Recently there has been some turmoil on the steem blockchain. I'm excited to announce that I'll be running a Hive Witness as resolution to my long held distrust of the distribution and therefore security of the steem blockchain. I'm happy to join a community that values these rights over near term financial gains.

Now that we're here doesn't mean the work is done. There are still community issues that need to be addressed, most important is onboarding. Setting the price of accounts is something that can be done.

While a distributed ledger that represents something like a censorship resistant reddit is cool, what’s even cooler is what you can build with it.

The one thing that is missing is a consensus smart contract system to provide for the remainder of these services. How can we guarantee a front-end is accessible to see this content.
How do we ensure somebody is seeding/pinning files on other p2p services.

We've been developing layer 2 solutions for open ended transactions or peer-through-peer services. Our DAO, decentralized autonomous organization, is an ad-hoc group
of people who run identical software, much like Hive. They read the Hive blocks and use it as an authenticated messaging layer, changing the status of contracts between the members.
Taking and reporting on actions when assigned. Such as verifying a file’s seed is still available at an address. Then collectively adjusting balances upon fulfilment of a contract. We can even automate multi-signature transactions of collective accounts, which can serve as asset pools for cross-chain capital movement. Fully open and transparent asset systems.

Part of this DAO is controlling the flow of capital across the asset boundary with no counterparty risk. No risk of exchange attack to the delegated proof of stake voting model.

These systems with some clever thought should be able to model and secure all our businesses around things it's participants care about. Stewardship of the environment, the commons, and us.

Let's build systems not around debt but around the only thing that matters. Trust and attention.

A little more of my technical chops:

  • Operated and was responsible for maintaining the safety systems of 3 nuclear power plant platforms.
  • Calibrated and upgraded radiation therapy devices for patient treatment of cancers.
  • Worked on blockchain solutions to climate change with Yale OpenLabs
  • Cohost HackForLA, the largest civic hacking group by attendance in the US.

A terrific post. What stood out is the portrayal of the future. It is a terrific summary of some of the things we can expect to happen.

Few technologists understand economics while even fewer economists have a clue about technology. What is sad is policy makers tend to have little idea about either meaning we are entering a rapidly changing era while using ideals/beliefs that are passe and outdated.

Best of luck in your Witness campaign...I am in the process of taking a lot at all of my votes.

I love this post. You got my vote buddy!
edit: also, can you link to your witness spot.

Why does your witness show that you are running version 0.0.0?

It'll be like that until it produces a block...
