En la sociedad el cuerpo del hombre y de la mujer son utilizados para crear unos cánones de belleza, tal vez inalcanzables para algunos, que exigen dedicación a través de gastos en operaciones, dietas y entrenamiento físico.

Según lo Individual: como seres pensantes se tiene la libertad de escoger vivir bajo una vanidad social, o bajo un nuevo canon que se centre en el respeto y valor a los sentimientos.
Es ahí donde cada uno describe a través de sus acciones como mujer y como hombre, la vertiente que desea vivir ya sea la de la sociedad o la individual. Dependiendo de la óptica donde se ubique la persona, esta va a cosificar o autocosificarse.
En el fenómeno de la Cosificación Sexual es la mujer la más vulnerable, pues ella tiene la presión social de verse bien, lucir ropa ajustada, usar maquillaje y tacones.
Últimamente ha crecido un interés en el cuidado de la imagen, a tal punto de que la mujer vive esclavizada a las cirugías estéticas y al rejuvenecimiento facial con toxina botulínica y plasma.
La autocosificación es real, no es solo causada por vanidad, baja autoestima e inconformismo. La presión social, los mensajes en los medios de comunicación y los roles que se le exigen a la mujer, son los causantes de las depresiones y la anorexia.
A pesar de lo que muchas feministas radicales puedan pensar, no solo el hombre cosifica a la mujer. Entre mujeres, se crean batalla de comparación que quieren dar trofeos a "la mejor vestida", "la más fitness", la más adinerada o la que tiene el esposo más influyente.
