To Hive or not to HIve?

in #hive3 years ago

Consider my post triggered by @theycallmedan and his post about Hive recently, together with my 1.5 years of presence here.

Feels like Hive has reached a somewhat tipping point, hence the above post about Hive's future is not the only one created lately. While brainstorming usually forces people to zoom in, let's zoom out for a while and see the big picture of Hive's potentials compared to the mainstream social media:

  • Can Hive compete them in user friendliness, and learning curve? Not even close and probably never will. Doesn't mean it shouldn't improve of course but that will never be its strong point.

  • Is the "freedom" of users to post whatever the fuck they want enough for Hive to grow? No. I mean, it's nice to feel that you act in absence of a big brother but you really think that the content banned from other places is the crème de la crème? The earth is not flat yet...Plus here you are not free from some whale's decisions anyway. There's no absolute freedom in nature and that's not necessarily a bad thing cause people, like all creatures, are not fundamentally decent. Besides, I've heard the most talk about freedom from the least free spirits. Coincidence? I don't think so. Free your mind and the rest will follow - if you expect an internet platform to make you feel free...well...

So what's the "green field" for Hive? In my opinion it's the chance for creators to see (at the moment some short of) rewards for their efforts while in the mainstream platforms you're either one of the few huge or a nothing like the vast majority. I think the real competitive part of Hive is the potential to be something like a rewarding Reditt. Oups...Reditt already entered this league actually...Still, I think that's where Hive's future is and where the focus should be: Make creators lives easier (at the moment they're not even precisely easy). That's the main attraction Hive can have and I don't compare it to Reditt in a demeaning attitude at all - I think it can surpass it reward wise. If someone wants to make friends, get laid or find applauders for their opinions (all respected human needs) there are way much easier and more satisfying platforms to use.

Only the quality of content shared in Hive can make a difference combined with the potential of rewards for the creator. At this point I want to mention that auto upvotes is a bad idea. There's (usually older) users addicted to post daily whether they have anything worth sharing to say or not since they know that this makes some $ for them even if they only managed to say "good morning" in 3 paragraphs.

That's my 2 humble cents and here's a today's picture for the non reading ones:

Peace and prosperity.
