Post 717 and Post-Steem, from where I've just deleted all my content!

in #hive4 years ago

Better late than never I finally got around to using Steem Pruner to delete all of my content from Steem and automatically put in redirect links to the same posts on Hive!

Steem Pruner.JPG

It's a really neat tool - you just check the Steem node (as indicated on the site), make sure you've got the 'Insert Hive Link' option checked, (you probably don't want 'Fuck Justin Sun' times however many posts you're changing), enter your Steem/ Hive user name, check how many posts you want to ignore (you may have been shitposting in the last few months) and then click 'prune this shit'.

You can add in a personal message too if you like - I went with a nice simple...

"I've moved to Hive, along with most other people, following Justin Sun's takeover of Steem in the Spring of 2020. I believe hive is a lot more decentralised than Steem!"

The software then just works through your Steem posts and edits them one at a time. It does drain your RCs, so it helps if you've still got a litle SP left!

Bye Steem.JPG

Now there's another 600 posts which point to the Hive blockchain from Steem, and about another 50 which return 404s from Steemthanks to my spring shitposting, which won't do Steem any good!

Steem is dead.JPG

There's an excellent tutorial covering how to use Steem Pruner here by @soyrosa, but honestly it's really pretty self explanatory, you just click and go!

I was inspired/ reminded to do this thanks to this post by Pitboy.

Here's a list of all my 716 Hive Posts....

And testimony to how little I know about Python.

Here's the code I cut and paste from somewhere off of @holger80's Beempy 'read the docs' site!:

from beem.account import Account
from beem.comment import Comment
from beem.exceptions import ContentDoesNotExistsException
account = Account("revisesociology")
c_list = {}
for c in map(Comment, account.history(only_ops=["comment"])):
if c.permlink in c_list:
continue
try:
c.refresh()
except ContentDoesNotExistsException:
continue
c_list[c.permlink] = 1
if not c.is_comment():
print("%s " % c.title)

If you cut and paste it into a Python notepad thingy (whatever they're called) it gets you a list of all yer Hive post titles: around 716 in all now no longer on Steem and pointing to Hive!

At some point I'll figure out how to do more with Python/ Beem, more than just extract a list of all my posts!

Oh, and this one! no 717!

Sort:

Damn. 717 posts. You are a beast!

Hive on!

Well I do like to write!

Cheers!

I have a scary number of posts, but they are hidden since Steemit censored my account. I think you need the link to get to them. I had already used Steem Pruner on them anyway. I want people to find me on Hive now.

I must say it felt good pruning.

For some reason they've censored blockbeard but not my main account?

Shows how clueless they are!

This censorship shows how scared they are of criticism. It's irrelevant now as I don't plan to post there any more.

Such a crazy feeling to remove all that content from Steem right?! It was for me. But since a week or so I'm using a new laptop and didn't even bother to install the Steem Keychain anymore - I guess I don't even see the point of logging in anymore. Times have changed :-) Impressive list of content you have! :D Congratz on the clean slate!

It felt good I must say!

Interesting one on Steem Keychain, I don't think I'd bother either TBH.

It's pretty depressing over there - they're now on 1000 days of steem, I shit you not.

LOL. Well - at least they're optimists :D (I actually feel sorry for the small team trying to keep it up. Very curious though what Sun is planning. He won't let things as they are for 1000 more days. But what's he going to do? Pump the price? Make a Tron-token off of STEEM? Who knows.)

Something crazy is going to happen for sure!

I have yet to do the pruning, I want <1 STEEM in my account first, as they will probably block all my content as they have with others.

I guess there's no harm in waiting. That's what I was doing initially, then I sort of forgot about until I was reminded to do it yesterday, that and the fact that I didn't have the mental energy to write anything more substantial for the day!

I'm happy to risk it now I've got very little Steem left. It all comes out via another account anyway.

Why British society is like a caravan park

A must-read for me :)

I did a contingency plan yesterday "just in case" and discovered I could retire tomorrow! I won't, I'll be in a better place if I keep earning for a while, but it was a nice surprise and good to know.

That Caravan Park analogy was from Zygmunt Bauman - it's quite good, used to be like a house - where we felt like we could change its structure - now a Caravan Park - where we treat society like tourists and just expect various services. Move on when we don't like it or get bored.

That's good to know - you must have paid off your mortgage i guess, that's usually the killer!

Also it depends whether you like your job, I get the feeling you don't mind yours too much!

Yes, I'm wondering whether I can scroll through 717 posts to get to it :D

👍 thanks - interesting, quite a good analogy, although I feel a bit depressed reading it. We seem to have different layers of things happening: yes, an over-arching theme of privatisation (in every sense) and loss of the public realm and the associated abdication of responsibility; and then at a local level, still, widespread and quite deep social connections. I live in a very stable neighbourhood, but I have also noticed it in London, in much more transient environments. People will help each other, are kind and friendly to each other. Perhaps it is as the Anarchists say: that the corrupting element is "authority".

Yes I don't think the social sphere is quite shot just yet!

Maybe if we could get rid of money and the internet, that would probably help with strengthening the local!

Thank you for your engagement on this post, you have recieved ENGAGE tokens.

Oh good.. I didn't know the shit posts wpuld return 404 with the pruner. Guilty of milking a few extra rewards to power down and send over to HIVE.

It was a no-brainer that milking - it did get boring after a while though.

Not really worth it now everyone's powered down!

Tried out a few of your direct links to hive posts on Steem and most I tried get me an error 404 and don't open up on Hive correctly. Not sure why, the address looks alright...

Ah that's because I was shitposting on Steem for a couple of months after the Fork - you need to scroll back until February to get the links that work - those most recent posts didn't post to Hive!

I didn't even know it was possible to erase any posts from steem, first time I heard of it... Cool you could do that and link your posts to hive.
