Trying to catch up and repairing the wrong route

in #hive4 years ago

The last few days have been busy, so I haven't had a chance to catch up on what has been happening surrounding the Steem freeze of some accounts. I do not even know what the justification for the move was, so if someone has any post that gives a synopsis or is willing to give a short rundown in a comment, it would be appreciated.

I saw that @darthknight was included in the list, which is quite incredible considering they are a new account to Steem and came in from Tron - not a witness, an investor. I also saw that they have typo'd the wrong route for a powerdown. Normally, this can be changed in seconds, but since the account is frozen post fork, it is impossible without the witnesses.

This means that all the witnesses that pushed through the fork are liable as they have left the account stranded from normal actions and in a vulnerable state by their actions. And unless they recover the account and allow it to adjust the route, I think there is a very strong case that the Steem witnesses can be taken to court. Since they are Steemit Inc backed, this means that Steemit Inc as a company is likely liable, especially as it seems they heavily supported the fork.

But as said, I don't know the ins and outs of this, but I think that the move was made out of spite and retaliation for not getting the HIVE drop - but there is difference here. HIVE didn't exist - it wasn't owned until it ho the wallets. The problem with the freezing of the accounts now is that they are private accounts and that Steem is very much owned -and has no other claims on it, as the Steemit Inc stake had. The witnesses that approved this fork should be absolutely ashamed of themselves and I am so disappointed that the Steem blockchain has degraded into such depravity.

What is the most interesting thing is that these accounts were powering down and while that would have dropped the price short-term, it would have given the opportunity for those who believe in Steem to power up. And, once these private account had powered down, they would have left the blockchain alone - instead - the supposed witnesses whose job it is to produce blocks and make sure the chain keeps running seem to be doing everything in their power to make destroy it by using their position for personal vendettas.

The hive fork and subsequent no airdrop for some accounts wasn't personal, the founders wanted a decentralized blockchain and that means excluding those who obviously didn't care about that at all, as they had voted to centralize it by supporting Justin Sun. This move however has nothing to do with anything by the looks, just small minds grasping at straws for relevance.

If they really wanted to be relevant, perhaps they should do some development for their blockchain, for as far as I can see, most of the tools I have come to use over the years are turning to hive exclusive, as are most of the developers. What is left of Steem is being run into the ground incredibly fast.

Perhaps this move was a way to save face, to show strength? Well, that is a pretty darn big failure because all it seems to show is how small they are, how petty. The Steem witnesses seem to be not only immature as witnesses, but as people

I wonder how many of them can code further than copy pasting and changing a few numbers and names.

It is going to be interesting what is going to happen during a real hardfork.

Note to @darthknight: When you first joined you mentioned to me about finding a hidden gem in Steem and then proceeded to power up heavily - I am sorry that it is at this point now and hopefully, the gem you discovered there was actually a poor reflection of its potential, a reflection of Hive and the future here. I really hope that you can get your route recovered and if not, talk to a lawyer. Steemit Inc should be the first port of call.

I only have a vague idea what's going on (because sometimes I read those types of posts on steem just to try to vaguely have some idea of what's going on though I also don't know how much I care.

it would have given the opportunity for those who believe in Steem to power up.

This, I was kind of pissed off and the sheer mindboggling idiocy of freezing blocktrades. I mean it was inconvenient for me personally but they also just stuffed up everyone who might have been using it to dump their hive for more steem.

I don't think it's out of spite for not getting hivedrop (the witnesses that may have been spiteful were booted because they still don't support account freezing just because someone else is doing it and looks like they got booted as a result). Could just be petty revenge.

I don't even want to know. Today I intermittently struggled (with much page refreshing and also just leaving things running to see if the script would ever execute) to upvote one post. It failed and I gave up.

Being me I'm currently hoping things will be fine at least til my powerdowns are done but also mentally preparing for it just disintegrating.

Yes :D

but they also just stuffed up everyone who might have been using it to dump their hive for more steem.

Yep. I am hoping that some people who were planning on dumping Hive think twice.

Could just be petty revenge.

Yep. Could be - but it is pathetic for witnesses to do. But hey, that is what is possible in a centralized blockchain.

mentally preparing for it just disintegrating.

This is how I live each day :D

He sees big stakeholders powering down and selling for HIVE as a threat to Steem xD.
Now he is risking delistings of Steem and legal consequences just because he wants to fuck those accounts that fucked him.
Expect more irrational moves. Maybe he freezes everyone who has shown support for HIVE with more than 50k SP. :D would not surprise me at all.

Didn't he ask to be fucked?

Yeah, he is a loose cannon, with a small calibre.

Will the Hive witnesses reimburse affected accounts (lots of crossover in that Venn diagram) by raiding the millions of Hive dropped on Justin?

Guessing not.
