Ego games on blockchain again ! is hive heading where Steem went ?

in #hive4 years ago

Those who know me, know that I was very active on Steem before the corruption started - then I tried to fight for it as long as there was a smidgen of hope that it could recover to the old ideals - it didn't - shitposts and rewardsraping became the norm - I and many other artists in the community left one by one disillusioned and deeply saddened -

Then my friend @nickyhavey told me about hive how it was trying to make real the promises that steem had broken. So I came back to crypto blogging hopeful and in a good mood - I really was hopeful then I find out that @anomadsoul attacked Nick on twitter for promoting the platform! yup you heard me right - Nick who has brought so many of us back to this forum was attacked because sirwhalalot aka anomadsoul did not like nicks wording -

Screenshot 20200712 at 16.08.35.png

anomadsoul complained that nick was promoting the platform as further revenue atream for musicians he felt that nick wanted to rape the rewards pool and was disrespecting the platform ! Nick who busts his tuccus to promote it and bring in quality people not shitposters !

Screenshot 20200712 at 16.12.36.png

The thing is people come to alternative platforms for all kinds of reasons - but they stay for mostly 2 - it is lucrative and the community is great - nick's post was perfect for drawing in people of quality from the music scene as many of us are sick of how we are bled out by mainstream music platforms. To attack him like that just sucked - and what makes it even more ridiculous is that this dude @anomadsoul is actually advertising for shit posters to come to the platform on his pinned twitter post WTF!!!

Screenshot 20200712 at 15.58.37.png

So here we go again whales promoting shitposts and the people who upload quality are being bullied away ?

I am asking all the other whales and witnesses is this what you want ? I am asking the community is this what you want happening on hive ? If yes is your answer then I want no part in this - i want better - i am willing to give my all to provide better but I deserve a platform that respects the people who put their heartblood into it !

nuff said !

I know just how hard our pal @nickyhavey works on his projects, especially getting this awesome idea to do the @haveysguides page as an excellent resource for newbies and not so newbies alike. As much as I tease him about his spreadsheets, I wholeheartedly admire his work ethic. I also think musicians bring a lot to the platform and think it is fantastic to have someone so knowledgeable helping them find their way. I agree with you that the attacks do nothing to make people want to join or stay. We don't all have to like each other or support projects we're not interested in, but that doesn't mean you need to tear someone down. Especially when I know Nicky would fully welcome any positive critiques from anyone reaching out in a genuine way if you come to him personally and not just leave a negative comment for all to see. Thank you for supporting Nicky and I hope we can all continue to make this place welcoming for all. 💚

Thanks a lot P2P, I appreciate the kind words. Only took 3 days to write that first blog, get it looking all professional with graphic designer input from @gabrielatravels and then to have it torn down in the first couple of tweets it received 🤣

As I mentioned in my "blog comment", the main thing was just disappointment (and a bit of shock) at the comment received from someone who runs a curation guild for the creative arts!

I don't mind criticism, would take it as long as it's constructive and left a reply saying something like "next time, just DM if there's something you don't like".

Oh well, can't win them all hey 🙂

Nicky is just a big old softy and letting other people fight his battles for him! He will always text me when Arsenal win but when they lose you never hear from him that’s just how he is 😛

Oh God you said the "A" word 😩

About every six weeks, people with a strong vision of what Hive should be have to be reminded: the COMMUNITY IS WHAT THE MEMBERS ARE, NOT WHAT BIG PLAYERS WANT IT TO BE. Justin Sun learned that. People just need a reminder.

I write this as a creative who was part @ocd's Operation Slider Delegation on Steemit back in the day -- @anomadsoul and @ocd were a lot of help to me and a LOT of other highly creative redfish back then in getting to minnow status, even with HF 21 changing the game near the finish line for me.

But here is the deal: a lot of us joined because of what Steemit was promoting then: earn crypto for good posts. That was the promise we came in on. @ocd helped us with that. @anomadsoul, YOU helped a ton of us with that.

We stayed through the transition to Hive and convinced others to come back and to join with the same idea we had: be treated and rewarded fairly for the quality we would be bring to the new thing, Hive.

Nobody ever mentioned that we weren't needed, until you said it in your tweet, @anomadsoul. "We don't need people with the mentality of cashing out and draining the reward pool, we need long-term thinkers who are about freedom of speech, immutability, and saying screw you to the system." You said that when you chose to go after someone bringing fellow creatives in.

Were we supported here and helped to see just a little reward to pretty things up for the long-term thinkers who apparently are so much wiser and more desirable than we are? Does anybody know what Hive would look like in a month if WE WEREN'T HERE? Sounds like the same system that exists everywhere else in the world to me: creatives get little respect for the value they bring although they are essential for making things so the Desired Ones are interested.

Are we considered so STUPID that we can't be for receiving a fair reward AND ALSO the long-term things? We can all count -- we all know that unless you are in a country where currency is weak, we can't earn a living on this. Who said all of us were just cashing out every day -- for what, exactly? Who said that the few cents we do choose to cash out is harming the value we are all putting in -- all those curation rewards made possible for the big accounts, and all we have to show for it is a few cents -- and even THAT is resented?

And as for those in Venezuela, Malaysia, and parts of Africa that were in trouble before the pandemic and now are truly destitute -- don't you think the fact that HIVE is the measure of survival to thousands around the world is another good point? We are where Bitcoin is and Cardano is trying to go -- don't you think that has value even as a marketing point that few other cryptos have?

People, the community is what the members are. If we creative people are going to be attacked and treated like chattel for wanting some reward for the work we do, and for bringing more people in who will gladly contribute to make Hive even more attractive to everyone, then Hive is little different than everything else we supposedly are deciding to "screw." If that's true, there's plenty of places in the system to choose from.

Cent, Uptrennd, PublishOx -- even the Platform that Shall Not Be Named is still offering commensurate rewards to Hive. @nickyhavey is helping Hive beat the competition by bringing in the kind of people that came here like me, who made Hive vibrant and alive from day 1. Hive's competitors LOVE to see big names on the chain disrespecting the small creatives -- they are already gaining since the LAST BIG NAME messed up and tried to dictate what the community should be doing.

Several weeks ago when some big name got so beside himself that he THOUGHT he could publish a blacklist of thousands of people and punish them for doing what they needed to do to make their life work in the midst of this pandemic, the community said NO, loud and clear. I have spent a fair amount of time trying to talk people into staying here since, but folks are making exit plans now in case they need them. And don't get it twisted: so am I. So do a lot of other people that keep vibrant communities alive, of far greater importance than me. Hive is about freedom, right? We also have freedom to leave. Nobody owns us or our creativity.

Let's not go down this road to destruction, PLEASE. Here's some long-term thinking: let's have big names not attacking other people on Twitter and making the chain look like the same old centralized, dictated-to mess we can find everywhere else. Let's stop trying to control each other's behavior in terms of doing what they can to onboard fellow creatives. We want people to feel the freedom to STAY and WELCOME their friends, not exercise the freedom to LEAVE and tell their friends to avoid Hive!

well said love <3

can you please explain the blacklist part ?

Since the person in question repented and took the thing down, I'm not going to provide a lot of detail -- let's just say a lot of people are posting on both Steem and Hive and other people are mad about it. Someone got beside someone's self until the community let it be known: we're NOT about to go there.

Thank you for sharing your frustrations as well, just can't really add anything to this - it's sad what it's come to but I've had many messages come in from the music folks who saw that tweet and it's made my mind up for me.

@tygertyger I cannot but agree with your sentiments and endorse them. That response to Nicky and to my tweet was inappropriate and, IMO, demonstrated his ... urgh! ... not sure what.

Similarly, I am with @plantstoplanks and @zekepickleman. @nickyhavey has to be one of the most helpful people on the blockchain. I know. He deals with my really stupid questions with grace. He's helped me to think differently about things on the blockchain. I was a fan of his bluffer's guides, so when he told me his @haveysguides idea, I told him to go for it.

In a space where we need mass takeup, we need marketing, onboarding and retention. And given the catholic (in the proper sense of the word) membership of @hive.io, someone who knows how to hook in members of their own 3D specialist community is to be treasured and supported and not vilified.

It's a pity that bullies' self interests and horrible behaviour results in good people abandoning the blockchain. I have been in a similar position and it takes me an awful lot to raise my head above the parapet for fear of getting shot. It slays me that "accounts" forget that when they let off a volley of bullets, they leave people bloodied and dying.

Yah Nicky is a solid dood and has given me lots of good music over the years.

There is a difference between get rich quick and it not being a revenue stream. It was ONLY the revenue stream that brought me to steem then I discovered the joy of writing through interacting with the community. Maybe a dollar a day isn’t considered much of an income stream but it is. For some countries, it is substantial.

It is good to see stewards caring for the blockchain and it’s image. People will disagree and I have seen some get triggered by the smallest of downvotes.

It really is what you make it and turning the flag wavers (external hive proponents) into flag warriors is not very constructive.

Nicky is classy and artistic and will make it through just fine I suspect and i will support him and the community.

Thanks Zeke, appreciate the kind words. Hope you're all good mate!

If I were any better, there would have to be 2 of me.

Might throw on some DnB while I work in your honour.

Guess if you post selfies its ok, but if you're a musician with content that you create that takes way longer than a 5 second snapshot, it's not.

Lol effort isn’t supposed to be rewarded only nepotism

yup made a selfie post am going to for a while and am gonna tage the dude in it #moenyfornothng !

Lol the true fact of the matter is no one is meant to promote the HIVE blockchain but the bigger accounts and that’s it! I’m a marketer by trade and have tried to lend my thoughts to how to expand the network but yeah no ones going to listen to someone whose actually got a qualified opinion unless you’re in certain circles I at least tried

There are now many of these projects and new ones will roll out eventually the market will decide! So no sense in me getting charged over anything I’ll have fun with it up or down

Firstly, thank you for the kind words of support, I had nothing but good intentions with that blog series.

Having been in the music industry for 10 years and crypto/hive over 2.5 years, I wanted to bring more eyes on the Hive platform who aren't crypto heads or know anything about it.

There's a very real use case that Hive fills with peakd, 3speak and dsound for disenfranchised musicians to grow their fanbase, reward their fans and continue building their careers with an additional revenue stream where they are getting screwed by the current system. As far as I'm concerned, those 3 words ("additional revenue stream") are not dirty but a regular phrasing used by all professional musicians, radio DJs and music fans and THIS is the audience I'm going for.

I was really so disappointed that this comment came from someone who co-runs @ocd and thus supported me and my music creations during my time here, never powered down (other than steem after the fork) and bought a few thousand more HIVE to increase my stake as well. Would have thought being someone who runs a curation guild for the creative arts, more musicians would have been exactly what they were looking for.

Add to that there was another account looking like it was an official Hive account (to the outsider) called Trending on Hive (or something similar) saying they agree with what was said and I'm hearing from some of those who read those replies in DM asking "What's that all about?" then saying "No thanks".

And what you said about the pinned post on Twitter promoting people to post selfies and earn $10... You can't make it up!

Thanks to all who supported the series on the tweets and at @haveysguides, I might continue with them as the musicians and other new users I've helped onboard and welcomed so far are sticking around, at least for the moment! But yeah, don't be surprised if I don't continue. There's enough real life shit to deal with.

Take it easy hey, Internet dramas did no good for anyone

Nicky

I appreciate what you are doing, Nicky, and no matter who thinks otherwise, the COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU. I would hate for you to leave and for you to have to do so for your peace of mind -- it would be a tragedy. But, if certain people at Hive don't respect the community for what it is and run good folks off, hey -- Hive will go under, and we will all move on. In the meantime: keep doing what you are doing.

Thank you for kind words @deeanndmathews but sometimes you have to follow the signs. I'll be doing one more post and then "dimming the lights" 🙂

It's sad to see these kind of attacks. Why can't people just live and let live...? 🤔

I know I am a bit late to this, but has there been downvoting, or just criticism?

No there haven't been downvotes, just those tweets I mentioned in my comment above and the subsequent negative reactions via DM from the professional musicians I was hoping to onboard.

I've moved on though and the Sun is shining again ☀
