Don’t tell your friends about Hive 🤫

in #hive4 years ago

I’ve said it before but I can’t stress it enough! You scare your friends away by obsessively pushing Hive. On social media, for the purpose of getting the name out there, that’s another thing. It’s great to use the #hive tag and inform people about all the good things going on here. It’s great to comment on strangers posts and mention hive, especially people who are complaining about the platforms they are on.

No disrespect for people getting the word out....

Buuuuuuut....

We have all experienced when we recommend something that we think others will love and they totally ignore it. People don’t like to have things pushed down their throat!

The very best thing you can do to promote hive is to send people articles that will really interest them. Tell them “I wrote this essay about ——- in case you are interested.” Or “I made this video about ——-“. “Cool, what’s peakd? What’s 3speak?” “Actually it’s all on a network called Hive. It’s social media with more good shit and less bad shit, good for blogging, videos, photography, anything...”

If you think your friend is interested in blockchain, mention it. If you think your friend is skeptical of crypto, don’t right away. I usually mention it only once they show interest.

Get into their subconscious! Your enthusiasm will be enough even if you don’t tell them to join. Especially if you don’t.

I bring up hive in conversation now and just talk about it casually without trying to pull anyone on. So far I have 5 or 6 people who are interested so now I send them more articles.

Sharing articles is the best thing you can do if your friends don’t seem like they’d be convinced easily.

I’ve started a Facebook group for sharing ideas and sometimes I’ll put parts of my hive articles there and leave a link for people who want to read more. So far 6 or 7 have checked it out. I send my posts to friends off of Hive if I think they’ll enjoy them.

Rather than saying “join hive! It’s awesome!” I think this works a lot better with friends and family.

Once they start asking more questions, that’s when you send them your referral link 😉

One of the most powerful motivators is FOMO. I remember when tons of new users flooded to STEEM in 2017/2018 because of the bull market. Things are different now, but I still imagine there will be a pretty big boom sometime in the future.

Completely agree that it's best to let people ask about something and get them enticed rather than pushing.

Totally agree! Let people join as you slowly get their interest without shoving it too much.

Stuffed down the throat it tastes like a religious cult!

Definitely. We all tend to subconsciously resist when we sense someone is being pushy.

Very good point! I experienced this as well and I always feel like a fanboy missing to convince others that this cool band is the hot shit. I agree with you that good quality posts on the blockchain will attract people automatically.

Hmmm... Nice idea

That's pretty much how I roll XD

I was working on getting another dA artist on here and I think he may have actually signed up but seems to be having problems logging in -_- I haven't managed to catch up with him recently to see how he's going but the signup shenanigans and all those keys still seem to cause some minor consternation.
