You are completely right about a walkthrough experience showcase. Good idea. There is some on youtube, for example here is a standup comedy highlight:

Your idea for giving headsets to those who can't afford is great and my hopes would be that where previous editions sponsors would do HiveFest ticket raffles they will now do VR headset give-aways.
Sponsorships go towards covering event costs. As said in the post I will come up with a limited HiveDao proposal for the event which imho will be very affordable, as costs are significantly lower (about <10% of IRL HiveFest), which should give a detailed overview of forecasted expenses which will consist of stuff like:
- headsets;
- physical location rental for event production because of fiber optics;
- livestreaming hardware / streaming costs
- in-world models;
- third party in-world Mixed Reality Extension development;
- event production;
- promotion, etc
Personally I'm occupied for 6 weeks more or less fullltime with the event. Yet I would refrain from calling it a job, as I hate jobs :)
How sponsorship and ticket levels worked in previous editions: With major costs for HiveFest IRL, total different budgets, I always tried to have attendees expense-weight to max 50% of the costprice of the eventproduction. Some people paid more, others less, so basically people who opted to pay more made sure others could pay less. This always worked out so far on a Fair Use Policy, magic of the intrinsic good HiveFest attendees I guess.
But yeah this year's personal level sponsorship (donations) could be a variable income going towards the budget and could alter cost spending with variables too (e.g. more or less online advertisment).
But more to be defined in a HiveDao proposal very soon now.
