I want to ask this question, and start a discussion about how we can make this happen.
I don't fully understand SMTP or how email works, but today pretty much everyone has an email address.
What makes Email work? and how can we create a decentralized email built on Hive (or blockchain) that is essentially free for users, and an improvement over previous email? An email address to change the world, like dmail ? what would the addresses look like? I know we have @darkflame addresses here already, but something for mainstream adoption such as a dapp where you can create the address and it is connected to an account you have the keys for, so maybe something like [email protected] , and you sign into a true secure decentralized email dapp with the connected account and key .
I am aware of the #memo key feature we already have. I think this email idea is possible.
Ok so back to the basics, what makes email work?
What challenges are there currently to remaking an email system?

This is a great idea, especially for a creative, collaborative environment. It may lend well to people exchanging ideas related to intellectual properties. What do you think @darkflame?
Additionally, this email system should work with standard email too, able to recieve emails and send to standard emails also.
Consider how one sends a transfer with their memo, get paid to receive span.
Send a higher amount for priority, to get attention from the receiver. If someone pays me 5 hive I will be happy to read their message even if it is a sales pitch. This is an attention economy and I would like to be rewarded for my attention
Perhaps a filter setting in the inbox, memos with less than 0.01 Hive go to the low priority box, higher transfers (voluntary, not fees) go to the urgent box?
The only downside to this is that we want a higher hive price so perhaps we dont want to make decentralized mail too expensive. 999 msgs for 1 hive is super cheap

What could make decentralized email better?
I want to encourage users to use the messaging feature, at a mere cost of 0.001 hive per message to send a transfer, no fees. That's around 1-2 satoshis, and to earn some hive just write a story and earn some rewards, to use to send messages with a small Hive transfer. If I would like your priority attention I could send a larger amount. What if someone sent you a message with 250 Hive? You would probably want to reply to that message! The push payment feature of bitcoin is revolutionary but hive takes it a step further with working microtransaction ecosystem for sending messages at a very minor cost to the sender. This does prevent spam in a way because the sender has to pay for the msg like depositing a quarter in a payphone.
