Simple percentage Calculation with an example

Hi guys,

just want to show some simple formulas:

• Rate
• Part
• Base

So far so good!

• (Part : Base) x 100 = Rate
• Part x (100 : Rate)= Base
• Base x (Rate : 100) = Part

So as we know the magic formulas now, let's apply it to the COVID numbers:

Deaths worldwide: 1,515,990 (Part)
World Population: 7,770,000,000 (Base)

We want to find out: (Rate) - so how many percent of people worldwide died by COVID?

We remember:
Rate = (Part : Base) x 100

So let's insert the numbers:
Rate = (1,515,990 : 7,770,000,000) x 100

Rate ~ 0,01951%

It's so easy!
But wait .. ?

We have this death-rate and these restrictions in contrast?! Does this even make sense? Don't more people die (because of financial problems/depressions/etc.) by the lockdown restrictions than by the virus?

Hi xchng,
Ich verstehe deinen Punkt und so gesehen hast du Recht. Allein durch die Maßnahmen sterben evtl. indirekt mehr Menschen als (direkt) an Corona.
Ich habe aber auch ein schönes Rechenbeispiel:

Auf einem See verdoppelt sich täglich die Anzahl der Rosen. Nach 100 Tagen ist der See halbvoll.
a) Nach wieviel Tagen ist er ganz voll? b) Zu wieviel Prozent war er am 90. Tag?

a) 101
b) <0,1%

sorry für die sehr späte Antwort - aktuell habe ich nicht sooo viel Zeit für STEEM/HIVE ☹️

Dein Beispiel ist auch sehr gut und zeigt sehr schön, wie exponentieller Wachstum funktioniert - finde das Beispiel ist so gut, dass man einfach darüber nachdenken MUSST - thanks for sharing! 🙏
