I am Gerónima Muñoz, Venezuelan, Cantora, Cuatrista, Professor of Music Education graduated from the Pedagogical of Caracas. B.A. in Music, mention: Popular Singing.
Desde muy pequeña fui criada por mi abuela Leonor Mendoza, quien influye con su devoción a la Cruz de Mayo, cantaba en reuniones sociales y en la escuela. Con el transitar del tiempo, muestra interés por los géneros de la música tradicional del oriente venezolano, debido a mi origen paterno, siendo hija de Pedro Muñoz Farías, Poeta, Galeronista, oriundo de Río Caribe, Edo. Sucre. Con esa influencia inicio contacto con nuestra diversidad musical, interpretando puntos de velorios, fulías, malagueñas, jotas, polos, entre otros.
From a very young age I was raised by my grandmother Leonor Mendoza, who influenced me with her devotion to the Cross of May, singing in social gatherings and at school. With the passing of time, she showed interest in the genres of traditional music of eastern Venezuela, due to my paternal origin, being the daughter of Pedro Muñoz Farias, Poet, Galeronista, a native of Rio Caribe, Sucre State. With that influence, I started contact with our musical diversity, interpreting points of wakes, fulías, malagueñas, jotas, polos, among others.
En el año 1990, realizo estudios en los Talleres de Cultura Popular de la Fundación Bigott, dedicándome a la investigación de los diversos géneros musicales en el país. Soy ex integrante de la Agrupación Folklórica CONVENEZUELA y Grupo Maizal dirigidos musicalmente por el Maestro Ricardo Sandoval. En la actualidad, pertenezco al Grupo Folklórico Experimental Tambor y Gloria de la Parroquia San Juan con el cual viajé a la Isla de Santa Lucía, representando a nuestro país en el año 2016, aparte soy cantora y cuatrista en el Conjunto de Mónico Márquez y el Grupo Estribillo, haciendo el trabajo a nivel nacional de fomentar y mantener la música del oriente venezolano y de valorar cada día más a nuestras cultoras y cultores. Por otra parte, participo como cantante solista junto a los Maestros William García, Milagros Figuera y José Gregorio “Gollo” Enis.
In 1990, I studied at the Popular Culture Workshops of the Bigott Foundation, dedicating myself to the investigation of the diverse musical genres in the country. I am a former member of the Agrupación Folklórica CONVENEZUELA and Grupo Maizal, musically directed by Maestro Ricardo Sandoval. Currently, I belong to the Experimental Folkloric Group Tambor y Gloria of the San Juan Parish with which I traveled to the Island of Santa Lucia, representing our country in 2016, besides I am singer and cuatrista in the Conjunto de Mónico Márquez and Grupo Estribillo, doing the work at the national level to promote and maintain the music of eastern Venezuela and to value every day more to our cultoras and cultores. On the other hand, I participate as a soloist singer with Masters William Garcia, Milagros Figuera and Jose Gregorio "Gollo" Enis.
He participado en conciertos en distintos escenarios a nivel local, nacional e internacional, participa en distintas comunidades, Ateneos, Casas de la Cultura, Casa de la Diversidad Cultural, Teatro Municipal, Teatro Nacional, Teatro Teresa Carreño, Embajadas, Instituciones educativas, bancarias, entre otras. Durante más de 40 años Gerónima Muñoz, dedico mi vida a la proyección, difusión y defensa de nuestra música tradicional venezolana, enalteciendo la identidad nacional. Como docente, participé en conversatorios, talleres de cuatro, clases de educación formal en el área del Canto Popular de Venezuela y Educación Musical en Venezuela y México.
I have participated in concerts in different scenarios at local, national and international level, participating in different communities, Athenaeums, Houses of Culture, House of Cultural Diversity, Municipal Theater, National Theater, Teresa Carreño Theater, Embassies, educational institutions, banks, among others. For more than 40 years Gerónima Muñoz, I have dedicated my life to the projection, diffusion and defense of our Venezuelan traditional music, exalting the national identity. As a teacher, I participated in talks, workshops of four, formal education classes in the area of Venezuelan Popular Song and Music Education in Venezuela and Mexico.
Actualmente, como un aporte a la cultura en nuestro país, brindo mi primera producción discográfica Folcloreando con Gerónima Muñoz, bajo la dirección general y musical del Maestro William García, compartiendo algunos temas de música tradicional como solista, junto al Maestro Hernán Marín, Gualberto Ibarreto, Giovanni Palacios, Jesús Berenzola, entre otros destacados músicos que me acompañan, cabe destacar que el arte de la carátula del disco la hizo una gran amiga Ileana Vargas, partiendo de allí, la caricatura la realizó mi hija Oded Granado y me la obsequió como regalo.
Currently, as a contribution to the culture in our country, I offer my first record production Folcloreando con Gerónima Muñoz, under the general and musical direction of Maestro William García, sharing some songs of traditional music as a soloist, along with Maestro Hernán Marín, Gualberto Ibarreto, Giovanni Palacios, Jesus Berenzola, among other outstanding musicians who accompany me, it is worth mentioning that the art of the album cover was made by a great friend Ileana Vargas, from there, the caricature was made by my daughter Oded Granado and gave it to me as a gift.
Una de las cosas que me animan a estar en esta comunidad de Hive.Blog, es compartir material sobre el Canto Popular y Tradicional de Venezuela y parte de Latinoamérica, enalteciendo la esencia de cada pueblo y su identidad. Al mismo tiempo, mostrar la importancia y el impacto social que genera la música en tiempos de cambios permanentes como los que experimentamos en la actualidad.
One of the things that encourage me to be in this community of Hive.Blog, is to share material about the Popular and Traditional Song of Venezuela and part of Latin America, extolling the essence of each people and their identity. At the same time, to show the importance and social impact that music generates in times of permanent changes like the ones we are experiencing nowadays.
Hoy por hoy, considero es importante sentir, interactuar y disfrutar todo lo que hacemos desde lo cotidiano y desde el arte… Gracias por la oportunidad.
