Missed Opportunity

As I continue to focus on my finances, I have continued to allocate assets into areas that I believe will hold value in the future as the uncertainty surrounding many of the financial systems globally remain top of mind for me. The amount of debt and fiat currency seen in markets is unprecedented and while they have seemed to put a band aid on economic growth, the cracks are already being seen. The current path is unsustainable in my opinion.

This has made me evaluate my assets as opportunities arise. An area I have been looking at has been precious metals as they prove to be a good haven against one of my longer term concerns, inflation. However, the demand for these assets has already increased the price of many of these. I still believe that some opportunities remain.

I recently got the announcement of the issuance of gold and silver coins from the United States Mint to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War 2. It did not initially interest me as I expected the premiums to be paid to be excessive. Even days before, seeing an ounce of Silver for $83 and one of Gold at $2,600 kept me on the sidelines.

However, I started to get emails and participated in forums where it seemed that there would high demand for these items as they had a collectibility aspect on top of the metal value. They were also being issued with limited quantities so it started gaining my interest.

The morning of the launch, a popular Dealer of these coins emailed some clients saying they were willing for pay $400 for the Silver Coin and $6,000 for the Gold Coin. While I do not participate in these, it definitely got my attention. Unfortunately, despite being online much before the launch, I was unsuccessful in securing any of the two Coins this time around. I was not too sad as the premiums are still pretty high but I am now looking to see how to add to my precious metals portfolio soon.
