This was one of my favorite snacks when I was a kid. Filipinos have a version of fried donuts. You will see them sold around the afternoon because they are popular as an afternoon snack. You will see stalls by the streets, usually near elementary schools, where these donuts are cooked and served hot to people.
The bread is just made of plain dough but it's buttery. What gives it more taste is the sugar powder they soak it in before they serve it to you. For some sellers they soak it first on a glaze and roll it on white sugar or sprinkle it with confectioner's sugar.
I guess we can say this is our local version of Krispy Kreme's original glazed donuts. It's no wonder we love KK's original glazed here, because it reminds us of our local fried and sugary donuts that we enjoyed as kids. Also, we enjoyed this kind of donuts when they were hot, just like when KK gives you another piece when you go there when their HOT sign is on.
On the picture is my daughter's take on donuts. She made them for the first time a few days ago, after I told her the story of how I loved this kind of donut when I was a kid. I know nothing about cooking, it was actually YouTube that helped her. She did amazing, it was close to how it should be. I'm proud of her work, I had to blog it.
