I cant believe I keep saying it, but there's unsettling about what’s coming out of Washington right now and it’s not even subtle anymore. According to CBS News reporting, congressional Democrats have launched an investigation into whether pardons handed out by Trump were part of a broader pay-to-play scheme. We’re not talking about obscure policy disagreements or gray area ethics un der this adminstation. We’re talking about the possibility that presidential pardons one of the most powerful tools in the entire justice system are being treated like transactions.
The investigation is looking into whether people who received pardons or commutations had financial or political ties to Trump or his network. That alone raises eyebrows, but when you zoom out, it starts to look less like isolated incidents and more like a pattern. We already know that Trump’s use of clemency has been unusually aggressive and unusually selective. A significant share of pardons have gone to wealthy individuals or political allies, particularly those convicted of white collar crimes. At the same time, there’s been a whole industry forming around this with lobbyists charging massive fees, sometimes in the millions, to help clients get in front of the right people.
Even if nothing illegal is ultimately proven, the damage might already be done. When people start to believe that justice can be bought or at least influenced by money it erodes trust across the board. Not just in one administration, but in the entire system. There’s already been growing concern from ethics experts that the current political environment operates on a kind of “you give, you get” logic, especially among wealthy donors and insiders.The pardon system just might be the most extreme version of that. After all the inside trade, it would be no surprise at all if there's inside stuff on pardons... Justice is never absolute, who has money has diverse justice
