Coming Out Stronger: Chipotle Did Better Than Most During Lockdown

For several months most places took to closing a large number of businesses, which included many restaurants. Those who didn't have the ability to offer pick-up or take-out options soon found themselves seeing a drastic decline in business.

But for those that were able to quickly jump to partnering with delivery apps, or setting up some sort of delivery, online sales system, to help them continue, they were able to keep going. And one restaurant in particular that did really well during the lockdown is Chipotle.

The restaurants that did have to close might have had potentially no impact on their sales.

They've seen sales triple during the second quarter. Compared to last year the sales are up more than 200 percent and many of those sales are coming from online sales.

They've seen that people want convenience and they will come back for that. Despite reopening their dining rooms they are still seeing strong online ordering numbers.

When many places had to be closed during the COVID-19 lockdown it prompted millions to become familiar with online ordering for everything from toilet paper to groceries, clothing, and more. Many who might not have bought anything online before, who who at least weren't too comfortable with the process. But now, that might be very different. There might be many people who've become accustomed to that new convenience of ordering groceries online now, doing pick-up for items at their local department store, or ordering food through an app, and they will continue with those habits that work for them.

Surprisingly, Chipotle is one American chain that admits to their sales having little to no impact from the lockdown. Admitting that it's basically had no impact at all till now.
